WASHINGTON —
Beth and Tom Baumert, 507 E. Main St., Washington, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 3.
They were united in marriage Nov. 3, 1962. The ceremony was performed at St. Williams Catholic Church, Shelby, Mont., with Rev. Konke officiating. Attendants were Judee Silberman, sister of the bride, and Gary Fratto, friend of the bridegroom.
Mrs. Baumert, the former Beth Sedenquist, is the daughter of Bert Sedenquist and Elizabeth Howendobler. Mr. Baumert, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Baumert, is a retired police officer of the city of Washington, reaching all ranks including police chief for seven years. He later served at mayor of Washington for 16 years and four years as a city councilman-at-large.
The Baumerts met and later married while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force in Great Falls, Mont. The Cuban Missile Crisis nearly canceled the wedding as everyone was restricted to the base at that time. The commander released Baumert just long enough to get married and then return to base.
They have two children, Charles and Clifford, both of Washington, and raised their one grandson, Ryan, also of Washington.
