The Food and Drug Administration in 1975 banned the sale of turtles with shells less than four inches long, but a rekindled interest in tiny turtles as pets has been linked to an outbreak of salmonella. This photo shows an undersized Red Eared Slider turtle that was seized by Maryland natural resources officers.
