MONTGOMERY — A young Montgomery man lost his life earlier today when the van he was driving left the roadway and entered a small creek on a rural northern Daviess County road.
Indiana State Police investigators say Darrin Devon Knepp, 19, was killed when the 1996 white Dodge Caravan he was driving was traveling west on CR 650N, west of CR 900E, when it left the roadway for unknown reasons.
Preliminary investigators say about 6:01 a.m. the Daviess County Dispatch Center received a call of a one-vehicle crash after a passer-by discovered the van in the creek ditch. The vehicle left the south edge of the roadway, breaking the bridge guard rail and came to rest on the passenger side facing east in the creek. State Police report Knepp was not wearing his seat belt and the ISP reports evidence at the scene indicates alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
Investigators say the crash occurred earlier in the morning, but was not discovered until the passer-by noticed the van in the ditch.
Investigators are asking that if anyone has any information about this crash to call the Jasper Post at 812-482-1441 or 800-742-7475.
