MONTGOMERY —
A Monday morning accident has taken the life of a Montgomery man.
Harry “Butch” Stoll, 56, fell 16 feet from a 9-inch-wide “I” beam at Hillcrest Supply Inc., 6134E 200N, after loading a feed truck with oats. He was pronounced dead at the scene, with cause of death listed as massive head trauma, according to a Daviess County Sheriff’s Office press release.
DCSO Dispatch received a 911 call at 8:57 a.m. stating a man had fallen at the business and was unresponsive. An investigation revealed Stoll had finished loading a truck and yelled down for the driver to go have it weighed, according to Sheriff Jerry Harbstreit. The next time someone looked in that direction, he said, Stoll was spotted on the ground.
“Nobody saw it happen,” Harbstreit said.
Stoll was taken to Brocksmith Blake & Wagler Funeral Home in Montgomery, where an autopsy was scheduled for Monday afternoon. Harbstreit said the autopsy will help determine if Stoll perhaps had a heart attack or some other medical condition that could’ve caused the fall.
A longtime employee of Hillcrest Supply, co-workers told Harbstreit that Stoll knew every aspect of the business.
First responders included DCSO, Southwest Medical and Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department.
