Indiana to release updated unemployment figures

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Updated figures on Indiana’s employment situation are being released on Wednesday.

The statistics for January will come after the state’s unemployment rate crept upward to 9.9 percent in December from 9.6 percent in November. That was as high as the Indiana jobless rate had been since it hit 10.6 percent last July.

The December figures showed that more than 300,000 Hoosiers were looking for work.

Indiana’s unemployment rates have generally been lower than its neighboring states. Michigan’s January jobless rate was 14.3 percent, while the national rate was 9.7 percent.
