Montgomery man falls to his death

MONTGOMERY — Daviess County Sheriff’s Department officials are investigating an accident where a Montgomery man fell to his death this morning.

Today at 8:57 a.m., a 911 call was received from Hillcrest Supply Inc., 6134 E 200N, rural Montgomery, when a male caller reported that a male subject had fallen from a grain bin and was unresponsive.

Harry “Butch” S. Stoll, 56, CR 575E, Montgomery, had just completed loading a feed truck with oats. He stepped up onto a 9-inch wide “I” beam above the feed truck and the truck had pulled away to be weighed. While Stoll was walking sideways across the “I” beam, he lost his balance and fell about 16 feet to the ground.

Daviess County Coroner Dr. Stephen Cullen pronounced Stoll deceased at the scene, with the cause of death being massive head trauma.

His body was taken to Brocksmith and Wagler Funeral Home, Montgomery, where an autopsy will be performed at a later time.

An investigation into the accident is continuing.

Stoll had been a long-time Hillcrest employee.
