EDWARDSPORT —
A fatality on the Duke Energy power plant construction site was confirmed Wednesday.
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department received the emergency call at 11:12 a.m. The 9-1-1 call was transferred to the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, where dispatch said an investigation into the accident is under way.
“There was a serious accident at the site late this morning involving a subcontractor,” said Duke Energy spokeswoman Angeline Protogere on Wednesday afternoon. “We have emergency personnel on site, and they responded, as well as off-site emergency personnel.”
She deferred further comments to CB&I, a Texas contractor that subcontracted with the accident victim. At CB&I, spokeswoman Jan Siving confirmed that the accident resulted in the death of a male painting subcontractor. Pending notification of relatives, she said, no other information will be released.
Protogere said employees were released shortly after 2 p.m. out of respect and will return to work this morning.
“That’s not unusual in an event like this,” she said, adding that there will be a routine safety briefing before each shift begins. “We share this family’s grief, and we take safety very seriously.”
