2 killed on U.S. 50 near Loogootee

LOOGOOTEE — A double fatality vehicle accident occurred earlier today on U.S. 50 about 1/8 mile west of Loogootee at approximately 8:02 a.m. Victims were: Lisha M. Moffett, 50, of Shoals, and Rolen Wilson, 4 years, 11 months, of Shoals. The driver was traveling east on U.S. 50 just west of Loogootee in a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire and for an unknown reason failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway on the south side striking a ditch, continuing east hitting a culvert sending the vehicle airborne for several feet, coming in contact with the ground again tumbling for several feet and coming to rest on the vehicle’s top. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. The passenger was seat belted in a booster seat in the front passenger seat and was transported to the Daviess Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by Daviess County Coroner Dr. Stephen Cullen. The accident was investigated by Deputy Anthony Worland assisted by Deputy Mike Heshelman, Lt. Chuck Milton, Maj. Jerry Harbstreit, Maj. Jeff Riker and Sheriff Steve Cox of the Daviess County Sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Loogootee Police Department, martin County Ambulance Service, the Loogootee Fire Department, Montgomery and Cannelburg Volunteer Fire Departments, Southwest Medical and the Daviess County Coroner’s office.

    Daviess County Sheriff’s officers and Indiana Department of Natural Resources conservation officers have recovered the body of a Vincennes man who drowned in the West Fork of the White River Saturday.

  • Williams sentenced to 65 years

    Derek Franklin Williams, 49, of Washington, was sentenced Monday morning to 65 years in prison for the murder of his wife, Kim, Feb. 4, 2011.

  • WILLIAMS SENTENCED TO 65 YEARS

    Derek Franklin Williams, 49, was sentenced this morning to 65 years in prison for the murder of his wife, Kim.
    Daviess Superior Court Judge Dean A. Sobecki said he sentenced Williams to the maximum because the aggravating circumstance of committing the murder in the home with two children present outweighed the mitigating circumstances of Williams’ good record in the military and as a civilian employee, as well as his lack of previous criminal record.
    Williams will receive credit for time served.
