WASHINGTON —
Cullen Arnold scored at 11:47 of the second half to hand Washington a 1-0 win over Class 2A No. 15 Castle Thursday.
Arnold’s goal was assisted by Blaine Arney as the Hatchets improved to 5-1-4.
Tyler Seibert turned away six Castle shots for the shutout. Washington had five shots.
The Hatchets had seven corner kicks to four for Castle. Castle received the match’s only yellow card.
Washington’s junior varsity remained undefeated at 7-0-0 with a 3-1 win over the Knights.
Carson Smith, Tony Serrano and Luke Jones scored for Washington.
Cardinals stop Sullivan
SULLIVAN — Class A. No. 9 Washington Catholic broke away from a 3-3 tie in the second half to defeat Sullivan, 6-3, Thursday.
The Cardinals (7-0-1) were paced by three goals and one assist from Brantly Smith. Colton Reed added two goals and assists.
Fisnik Daci had one goal, Christian Neace two assists and Blaine Fuhs one assist.
Steven Holland stopped seven shots.
Class A No. 15 Sullivan won the girls match, 4-0. Cardinal goalkeeper Sydney Dunbar had 20 saves.
Lions tame Rangers in 3
LOOGOOTEE — Class A No. 3 Loogootee defeated Forest Park, 3-0, in volleyball Thursday.
Michala Beasley had 16 kills and Demi Richardson 30 assists and nine service points to pace the Lions (10-2) to the 25-10, 25-18, 25-11 win.
Waylee Wagoner had 15 points and six digs, Kailye Robbins had 10 digs, Christina Ziegler nine kills, Abby Ackerman eight kills and Remington Wagler six kills and digs.
Cougars drop 5-0 tennis decision
ELNORA — North Central defeated North Daviess, 5-0, in tennis Thursday.
Brennan Crooks defeated Evan Hawk, 5-7, 6-0, 6-1, Jacob Chmilewski defeated Scott Woodruff, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3, and Colton Prechtel topped Braden Lawyer, 6-7(8), 7-5, 7-5.
In doubles, Parker Drake-Chaz Childs defeated Lane Heshelman-Trevor Wikle, 7-6(4), 6-2, and Nolan Kinnnett-Chris Stamper defeated Lane Fulton-Trent Bowman, 6-2, 6-2.
Cardinals fall to NE Dubois
DUBOIS — Northeast Dubois defeated Washington Catholic, 25-7, 25-15, 25-13, in a Blue Chip volleyball match Thursday.
Hannah Wild had four points and three digs for the Cardinals. Sarah Wild had four digs and two points, Mary Anne Wichman three digs, Rachel May a kill and block, Cheyanne Stone a kill and block and Elizabeth Brochin a dig.
Hatchets edge Lions, 3-2
The Washington junior high tennis team defeated Loogootee, 3-2, Thursday.
For Washington, Jacob Overton won 8-2. Jake Wilson-Hunter Escalera won at doubles, 8-4, as did Kaleb Knepp-John Rook.
Ben Lambert and Nate Napier lost in singles, 8-0 and 6-2, respectively. Austin Boyd-Jacob Rice were defeated, 6-4.
Titans defeat Cardinals
The Gibson Southern junior high girls soccer team defeated Washington Catholic, 4-1, Thursday.
Christina Smith scored Washington Catholic’s (2-1-3) goal.
