Feed My Sheep today
Feed My Sheep will distribute groceries from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at 601 W. Oak St. There will be no admittance to the building until 9 a.m. and the doors will be locked at 1 p.m.
Groceries will be distributed at the Odon Nazarene Church, SR 58, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday for persons with Odon and Elnora addresses.
Emergency food will only be given by referral from another agency. Connections can be reached at 257-2650

INDOT to close SR 57 near Elnora
The Indiana Department of Transportation announced SR 57 will be closing in Elnora for the replacement of a rail crossing.
Beginning Monday, railroad crews will be closing SR 57 from the junction of SR 58 to the junction of SR 54. Crews will be making repairs to the crossing located at 0.45 miles north of SR 58.
All work will begin at 9 a.m. and is scheduled to be complete by 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, weather permitting.
The official detour will route traffic on SR 58, SR 67 and SR 54.

Hunter Ed course next week
The next Daviess County Hunter Education Course will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with range day on Sept. 22.
Course times are from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. for 18th, 19th and 20th, with range day beginning at 8:15 a.m. on the 22nd.
The course will be held at the Simon J. Graber Complex, 9164E 875N, Odon.

B-R Baseball’s Big Buck contest
Barr-Reeve Baseball will be hosting the 3rd Annual Big Buck Contest. Cost is $15 for bow, $15 for gun, or $25 for both.
Forms can be emailed to you or picked up at these locations: Barr-Reeve High School, Viking Mart, Musket Shop, D and L Archery, Outdoor World, Traylor’s Chiropractic or JJ Archery. Anyone who signs up will automatically be entered into the raffle drawing for various prizes.
Deadline for youth hunters is Sept. 28, and for non-youth hunters the deadline is Sept. 30.

Wrestlers for relay
The Team Todd Relay for Life team will be joining with Tri-State Wrestling to bring an event to the Old Petersburg Gym on Saturday. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with bell time at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 and children under 4 are free. All proceeds from the event go to the Daviess County Relay for Life Team Todd.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation announced an award of $7,800 to the Washington Carnegie Public Library to support the new adult literacy program being now being offered.

Letters returned after 55 years
Fifty-five years ago Jerry Decker wrote letters back home to his sweetheart, Carol, from Camp Pendleton, California where he was based in the Marine Corps. Fifty-five years later, Jerry still had his letters from Carol. But Carol, now Jerry¹s wife of 52 years, had, well misplaced a few of hers.

Tuesday11:08 p.m. - A female caller reported a power outage on Old U.S. 50 W. Line crews responded, but were not able to restore electricity due to a faulty underground line. The line was fixed Wednesday.

Shoals graduation set
Commencement exercises will be held in the gymnasium of the Shoals Junior-Senior High School at 2 p.m. Saturday for 36 candidates for graduation. The Junior-Senior High School Band, under the direction of Joel Weitkamp, will open the commencement program with the processional, followed by the national anthem.

WC to graduate on Friday
Washington Catholic High School will hold its commencement exercises at 8 p.m. Friday in the gymnasium. Following the procession and invocation, Karie Craney, principal, will make introductory remarks. The salutatory addresses by Hannah Emmons and Steven Holland will follow a musical selection by the WC Ensemble. The valedictory address will then be given by Andrea Onyett. Daryl Hagan, superintendent of Catholic Schools Diocese of Evansville, and Andrew Wibbeler, dean of students, will present graduate scholarships. Bishop Charles C. Thompson, Diocese of Evansville, Daryl Hagan and Karie Craney will then present the diplomas.

High winds hit area; cause damage
Daviess County and the city of Washington were hit hard by storms that passed through the area Tuesday morning.
High winds accompanying the storms ripped through the area damaging buildings, uprooting trees and sending a 20-foot piece of wood through a car parked on the lot of Washington Chrysler Center. - More Local News Headlines
