LOOGOOTEE — Loogootee Junior/Senior High School will hold its commencement ceremonies at 7 p.m. Friday.
Following the processional, Andrea Heshelman, Student Council president, will give the opening remarks. The high school chorus will lead in the singing of the national anthem and present a musical selection.
Heshelman will present the class speakers, Joe Muessig, class president; Mindy Owen, class secretary; Jeff Mersinger, valedictorian; Chris Taylor, class treasurer and salutatorian; and Nick Schuetz, class vice president.
Following a slide presentation, the high school band with play the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” The presentation of diplomas will be made by Superintendent Larry Weitkamp, Principal John P. Mullen and Assistant Principal Scott Reid. Closing remarks will be made by Heshelman followed by the recessional.
The class motto is “What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.” Ralph Waldo Emerson.
The class flower is the yellow daisy.
Jeffrey Scott Mersinger
Class valedictorian Jeffrey Scott Mersinger is the son of Betty and Wayne Mersinger. He has been involved in Beta Club, Octagon Club, Key Club, and Family and Consumer Science Club. He participated in tennis and track.
He plans to attend Purdue University and major in aeronautical engineering.
Christopher Gregory Taylor
Class salutatorian Christopher Gregory Taylor is the son of Lisa and Greg Taylor. He has been involved in Peers, SADD, Octagon Club, Key Club and Beta Club. He participated in golf and basketball.
He plans to attend Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and major in biomedical engineering.

Alexander Rd., was cited for disregarding a stop sign after a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier he was driving became stuck on CSX railroad tracks in Washington near the Daviess County Chamber of Commerce. Tri-County Towing removed the vehicle at 5:41 p.m. after CSX officials had been contacted.

Messmer in Washington to discuss current legislation
District 63 State Rep. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) held a town hall meeting Monday at Washington City Council Chambers to discuss current legislation passed by the Indiana House of Representatives, to answer questions from constituents and to hear their concerns.
One bill of local interest that has passed through the House is HB 1149, the smoking ban. It would prohibit smoking in public places, enclosed places of employment and within 12 feet of a public entrance to those places. It also would prohibit smoking in certain state vehicles if signed into law. -
