CANNELBURG — One person is dead and another jailed on drug charges following a crash Tuesday afternoon.
At 1:35 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an accident at the intersection of CRs 900E and 100S, south of Cannelburg.
They discovered that Jane A. Gates, 49, Loogootee, failed to yield the right of way at the intersection in her 2000 Mercury Sable. She pulled out in front of a coal mine dump truck owned by Triple C Trucking Inc. of Washington, which hit her car in the driver’s side. Her car was then pinned under the dump truck.
Daviess County Coroner Dr. Stephen Cullen pronounced Gates dead at the scene.
The driver of the dump truck, Robert Franklin Ramirez, 35, 709 N. Meridian St., was not injured in the accident but was taken to Daviess Community Hospital to be checked out. He was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance causing death and was being held at the Daviess County Security Center to await a court date.
Assisting at the scene were the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department, Cannelburg Volunteer Fire Department, South East Fire District, Southwest Medical Ambulance Service, Daviess County Coroner’s Office, Martin County Sheriff and the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
