Washington man being held on $5 million bond after fleeing law

Ayron Robert Miller, 32, 2298W 450S, was arrested Tuesday by Vincennes city police after evading Daviess County Sheriff’s deputies Sunday and Tuesday evening.

Miller, who is being held at the Daviess County Security Center on $5 million bond, was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while being a habitual traffic violator for life, attempted operating a motor vehicle after forfeiture of license for life, domestic battery with bodily injury and failure to appear.

When Deputy Dave Fleming attempted to serve an outstanding warrant on Miller at 7:37 p.m. Sunday, Miller fled in a 1998 GMC Jimmy south on CR 300W, then west on CR 450S and south on CR 350W before eluding capture. Deputies went back to Miller’s home to see if he had returned and Pike, Martin, Knox and Dubois counties, as well as Vincennes police and state police were alerted.

At 5:51 p.m. Tuesday, a male caller reported Miller had returned to his home on CR 450S. Before deputies could arrive, Miller fled to the river bottoms of the White River West Fork. He was later picked up Tuesday evening by Vincennes police at 2626 Washington Ave., Lot 43, Vincennes.

Daviess County deputies transported Miller to Daviess County at 8:19 p.m. Tuesday.

According to one probable cause affidavit, Miller allegedly tried to run over his neighbor, Stephen Welborn and Welborn’s 15-year-old son in Welborn’s yard on Oct. 26. The affidavit also said Miller did damage to the garage of Welborn’s home after he did a doughnut, flinging rocks.

Miller then tried to assault Welborn and was very intoxicated. His girlfriend reportedly talked him into leaving the premises.

Later that day, deputies were called by Miller’s girlfriend at the time who said that after the argument at Welborn’s home, the two got into an argument and Miller allegedly assaulted her by choking her and banging her head into the ground.

EMTs from Southwest Medical EMS and deputies found marks on the girlfriend’s neck and back, according to an affidavit.
