Shoals High School will hold its commencement exercises at 2 p.m. Saturday in the high school gymnasium.
This year’s valedictorian is Erin Ashley Albaugh and the salutatorian is Jenae Marie Jones.
Albaugh is the daughter of Nick and Sylvia Albaugh. She participated in cross country, track, Spanish club, Beta club, film club, book club, service learning, band, pep band, spell bowl, academic team and S.A.D.D. club.
She plans to attend college and major in biology and then go to graduate school for genetic counseling.
Jones is the daughter of Shelli and Michael Steiner and Mike and Nellie Jones. She has been class president and class historian and participated in volleyball, dance, track, pep club, Spanish club, Read Write Run, Beta club (president), book club, student council (president and treasurer), service learning, spell bowl, academic team and S.A.D.D. club.
She plans to go to dental school after college and become an orthodontist.
Following the processional and the National Anthem performed by the school band, the welcome remarks will be given by Leslee Kettinger, class treasurer. Derek Holt, class vice president, will offer the invocation.
The school band and choir will perform musical selections followed by the salutatorian and valedictorian speeches.
A “Class of 2009” video presentation will be given after which David Springer, principal, will present the class. Diplomas will be presented by Tony Cundiff, school board president; and Dr. Anthony Nonte, superintendent.
Jeremiah Johnson, senior class president, will give the farewell address and the class flower will be presented by Heather Tinkle, junior class president, and Danielle Turpin, junior class vice president.
The class motto is “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success.” The class flower is the calla lily and the class colors are blue, black and silver.
