Brazil man injured when semi overturns

A Brazil, Ind., man was injured and flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after the semitrailer he was driving overturned on SR 57 Monday.

Raleigh E. Sherman Jr., 36, was driving a 1995 International truck southbound on SR 57 just north of the former Otterbein Methodist Church.

He said he did not see the brake lights on a vehicle driven by Patrick Murray, 8783 N SR 57. Murray had stopped for a car turning in front of him. Sherman swerved to avoid hitting Murray and went off SR 57 on the west side. Sherman continued off the roadway and struck a speed limit sign and hit a tree with the side of the trailer, rolling over onto the passenger side due to the slope of the shoulder.

Murray suffered neck pain and was flown to Methodist after arriving at Daviess Community Hospital.

Damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000. Murray was cited for not having working brake lights.
