City Council meets Monday

Area Briefs for Saturday

WASHINGTON — Washington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Council Chambers, 200 Harned Ave. Items on the agenda include: final reading of ordinance rescinding longevity pay; introduction of an annexation ordinance and reading of a fiscal plan resolution for annexing; introduction of an ordinance re-establishing the cumulative capital development fund rate; recycling update; and an address to vacate a section of platted, undeveloped street (Wilson Street).

The Board of Public Works and Safety will meet immediately after to discuss/approve claims and permits; and discussion/approve request by the church at 800 W. Main St. to close a section of N.W. Eighth St. between West Main and West Van Trees on Aug. 10, 11 and 12 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. for special outdoor services.

SAFS activities for next week

Monday — Closet cleaning bingo, 10 a.m.; Enhance Fitness, 2:30 p.m.

Tuesday — Movie and snack, 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday — Joe Elmore plays piano 9 a.m.; LinCare bingo, 10 a.m.; Enhance fitness, 2:30 p.m.

Thursday — Bible study, 9:30 a.m.; senior seminar — Long Term Care, 10:30 a.m.; Crochet Club, 1 p.m.

Friday — Nickel bingo, 10 a.m.; Enhance Fitness, 2:30 p.m.

Senior Seminar at Senior and Family Services, 211 E. Main Street, Thursday, 10:30 a.m. “Long Term Care” with Greg Matheis, administrator for Prairie Village Living Center.

Reminder: Senior and Family Services, 211 E. Main Street, is a cooling center. SAFS is opened 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

B-R School Board meets Tuesday

Barr-Reeve Community Schools Board of School Trustees will meet in executive session at 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss collective bargaining and a job performance evaluation.

The regular session will begin at 8 p.m. Items included on the agenda: tobacco free policy; appointments; fee approvals; personnel recommendations; ISTEP/ECA report.

Epsom reunion on Aug. 11

Reminding all graduates and classmates that the Epsom alumni luncheon meeting is Saturday, Aug. 11. Reservations are still being accepted until Aug. 1.     Area farmers are feeling the crunch to get crops into the ground as soon as possible. Wet conditions have halted many of the planting days in the last week.  Just five days were suitable for planting as the soil remains too wet in much of the southern portion of the state.
