WASHINGTON —
With Halloween approaching, three Washington High School students are offering a second annual Haunted Tour of Daviess County, this time with a different goal.
Seniors Connor Brashear and Blaine Arney and junior Drew Brothers are narrating a tour across the county that will include at least 18 different sites. The tour will explore many “haunted” and historical locations of Daviess County. Among these stops and stories will be the Blue Hole Pond train accident, the site of the Wratten Murders and many more.
This haunted tour is part of an even larger project. The three high school students are, through their DECA community service project, are raising funds for their friends’ scholarship fund. All of the proceeds from the haunted tour will be divided between the Derek Ray Arvin Memorial Scholarship and the Zachary Taylor Blubaum “Pay it Forward” Fund.
The two were members of the current junior class, and were tragically killed in March 2012 in a car accident.
“But part of the reason for the tour is to get people to quit saying ‘Washington is so boring,’” Brashear said. The tour buses will stop at each site which will be lit. Brashear said retired teacher Don Spillman helped them to choose the sites and learn more about what happened at each site. The boys also learned a lot about the county’s history through reading local historian/author Rex Myers’ local books.
Fellow students Hunter Potts and Kyle Pfender are helping with the tour again this year.
Brashear said, “I’ve done some great projects through Student Council, DECA and Beta Club, but nothing like this.”
Tours times are Friday at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Each tour will be about two hours long.
Tickets are $5 each. The starting location will be Eastside Park. Call 259-2376 for ticket purchases or more information.
