RTL paper drive on Saturday

WASHINGTON — ND class of 1992 reunion

The North Daviess High School Class of 1992 will hold its 20th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Gasthof Amish Village Loft Banquet Room in Montgomery. VAWC lunch scheduled

The Vincennes Area Women’s Connection luncheon will be held Aug. 14 at 12:15 p.m. at Brayten’s restaurant in Vincennes. The speaker will be Paula McElroy from Clarksville, Tenn., speaking on “Who’s in Control Here Anyway.” The speaker will also provide musical entertainment.   Reservations may be made by calling Kay 618-943-2198 or Sondra 882-1978. Reservations are due by Aug. 7. The price of the luncheon is $11 inclusive. Nursery can be available, just inform the person when making the reservation.

WHS Soccer  car wash

The Washington High School boys soccer team will have a car wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Bobe’s Pizza Express. They will also be having a bake sale at IGA that same day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to raise money for the Arvin/Blubaum Memorial Pavilion being built at the Soccer Complex.

Smart Choice Food ordering

Free Methodist Church, 1155 Troy Road, has announced the dates for ordering food from Smart Choice Food for the month of August:

•Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to noon;

•Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon.

 You may call the church at 254-5440 for a menu. Menus are also available on the church website at www.winfmc.com.

Online ordering is available at www.smartchoicefood.com. All orders must be received by Aug. 14. Cash or food stamps are accepted for payment. Call the church or Bob Collins, host site director, at 254-8990 for more information.

Food pickup will be Aug. 24, at 5 p.m.

RTL paper drive

The Daviess County Right to Life paper and aluminum can drive is set for Saturday.

Drop off papers or cans at the main location at the old Kmart parking lot in Washington, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other pick-up points around the county including St. Peter’s school in Montgomery, Ray Truelove’s residence in Cannelburg, Mallett’s Service Station in Plainville, Odon United Methodist Church (place papers in shelter house behind church), Elnora Christian Church and Martin County Recycling Center in Loogootee, are open from 9 a.m. to noon.

St. John yard sale

St. John Episcopal Church, 509 E. Walnut St., will hold a fundraiser yard sale in the church yard from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. Proceeds will benefit the outreach program.

Meade reunion Saturday

The descendants of James B. and Phebe Arthur Meade will meet at Knepp’s at noon Saturday. Friends and relatives are welcome.

Schnarr reunion

The descendants of John George and Katherine Margaret (Buchta) Schnarr will meet Sunday, Aug. 19, at New Hope Christian Church in Washington. All friends and family are invited.

A carry-in dinner will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Iced tea and lemonade will be provided. Guests are asked to bring their own table service and are encouraged to bring games and entertainment ideas to share with other guests.

The church is south of Washington on Bixler Road. From U.S. 50 Bypass take SR 257 north (towards town) and take the first road left. The church will be on the left.

    Republicans from Washington Township will meet today to vote on a new township trustee.
    Fifteen committee chairmen from Washington Township will vote at 8:45 a.m. today to fill the position following the death of Albert “Pete” Showalter, who died on April 13.

    Thursday
    1:03 a.m. - Karen Hulsey, of 511 S. Meridian St. reported a subject possibly hiding the bushes behind her residence. She stated she didn’t see anyone, but could hear coughing.

  • School board approves new handbooks

    Members of the Washington Community Schools Board approved the 2013- 2014 school handbooks.  Elementary, junior high and high school student handbooks will now be more streamlined with one another. One major change to the handbooks will be a stricter attendance policy for students. Currently, students in the school district can have 10 unexcused absences per semester.

    Road paving in Washington

    The Indiana Department of Transportation is advising motorists to be aware of temporary lane restrictions on Bus. 50 in Washington.  Beginning on or after Monday, May 20, crews will be spot paving throughout the city. Work will be accomplished one lane at a time and utilize flag persons to control traffic through the work zones. Work activities are scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day with all paving operations anticipated to be complete by May 24. Inclement weather will cancel the work operation for the day.

    Wednesday
    2:19 p.m. - Dave Waters, 200 1/2 SE 7th St., reported that someone had broken into his storage building and broke the windows out of the vehicles stored there. Waters also said that someone had smashed in the roofs on many of the vehicles. Extra patrol was requested.
