Edwards reunion next Saturday
Samuel and Laura (Webber) Edwards family reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Washington Community Building at Eastside Park. Bring a well-filled basket and eating utensils. All else will be furnished.
Library Friends to meet
The Friends of the Washington Carnegie Public Library will hold a board meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the large meeting room of the library at 300 W. Main St. All Friends of the Library members and anyone interested in the group is encouraged to attend.
Open house at Hope House
Hope House, 704 W. Van Trees St., will be open from 8 a.m. to noon today to give free food and clothing to anyone in need. Hope House is a ministry of Church on the Way.
E-Book clinic at library
The Washington Carnegie Public Library, 300 W. Main St., will offer an update on its e-book collection and how to use e-readers. The session will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 27. Call the library at 254-4586 for more details.
Koenig Benefit on today
There will be a benefit dinner and raffle for Eric Koenig beginning at 6 p.m. today at the French Club, 322 Lawton St., Bicknell. Koenig is a volunteer firefighter with the Bicknell Fire Dept. and was injured during a vehicle fire.
Sandborn dinner on Sunday
The Sandborn Town Park Board will hold a fried chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sandborn Community Building. Donations will be accepted
City Council to meet
Washington City Council will meet Monday following two public hearings that will begin at 6:30 p.m. The first hearing will be on the general penalty provision amendment of the code of ordinances. The second will be on the amendment of proposed water rates and charges.
The Council meeting will follow the public hearings for the final reading of those two ordinances along with ordinances fixing compensation of the officers, employees, firemen and policemen, and salaries of elected officials. Also the opening of bids on the demolition and removal of garage at 402 W. Hefron St.
The Board of Public Works and Safety will meet following the Council meeting. Items included on the agenda: discussion/approval of claims and permits submitted; discussion/approval of Victory Tabernacle to close a portion of 15th Street on Oct. 21; award of bids for demolition of garage; discussion/approval of transformer agreements with Daviess County Rural Water and McDonald’s Restaurant; discussion/approval of speed limit signs on Bussard Road.
Commissioners to meet
Daviess County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Monday in the Commissioners’ Room at the courthouse. Items included on the agenda: solid waste agreement; wellness program; election precincts; emergency management grant.
Zoning board to meet
The Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26. On the agenda: a request for a variance on garage construction at 13 Old Orchard Lane.
Chili supper at Loogootee
St. John’s Lutheran Church of Loogootee will host its annual chili day from 11 a.m to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3.
They will also have a country store featuring baked goods, crafts and more.

Prejudging for Fair contest
Prejudging for the Daviess County Fair’s Little Miss and Mister contest will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Elnora Fire Station.

ND to adopt new textbooks
The North Daviess School Board approved the adoption of new reading textbooks for kindergarten through grade six.
Reading Street from Pearson Scott Foresman will be used for the next six years beginning in the fall. Text books fees for the upcoming school year will remain about the same for kindergarten through grade six. Textbooks for the junior and senior high will vary depending on the classes in which students enroll.

Man shot with BB gun
Monday
9:33 p.m. - A male caller at 603 N.W. Second St. said his roommate shot himself in the tongue with a pellet gun. The roommate told officers he thought the gun was not loaded. Both the caller and the roommate were taken to Daviess Community Hospital.

Hupmobile club to visit locally
If you see nearly two dozen classic cars rolling up and the down the roads of Daviess County and the surrounding areas next week, there’s a good chance you are seeing a Hupmobile. Beginning Sunday, the International Hupmobile Club will begin its annual tour, this time across southwest Indiana.

James D. Jones, 60, of Shoals has been identified as the suspect killed when gunfire was exchanged between Jones and State Trooper Jarrod Lents, a nine year veteran of the Indiana State Police

Lucille Dillon, the first lady of tourism in Daviess County, died Saturday. She was 76.

A Washington City Councilman announced Monday his intentions to run for the state senate.

4-year-old dies after incident at Eastside Park
A 4-year-old who was found in the water of the overflow of Baumert Lake, near the Pavilion at Eastside Park, was pronounced dead at Daviess Community Hospital.
