FARLEN —
A Jasper woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 231 Tuesday afternoon.
Margaret A. Clark, 61, was killed when her 2006 Chrysler minivan struck a sliding vehicle in front of her on the highway, two miles north of Farlen, at 3:33 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Daviess County Coroner's office.
According to a release from the Daviess County Sheriff's Department, Clark was following a 2005 Ford Explorer driven by Cameron Chestnut, 17, Odon. A witness told deputies Chestnut¹s SUV lost control and spun on the snowy, slushy highway.
Clark, who was following in her minivan, struck the passenger door of the SUV, causing severe damage to both vehicles.
Chestnut, who was complaining of back pain, was taken to Daviess Community Hospital where he was admitted for observation.
According to the accident report, the weather and speed were the primary reasons for the crash.
The snow caused several other accidents near the same time of Tuesday's fatal accident in Farlen. Dispatch reported two accidents on I-69 near the SR 58 exit. A semi lost control of its trailer and jackknifed in the southbound lane, stopping traffic. There was also a report of fuel leaking into the median. No one was injured and the semi was towed.
Almost simultaneously, a caller advised on another accident just near the turnoff. Later in the evening, a Jeep overturned on S.E. 11th Street. No injuries were reported in either accidents.
Daviess County dispatch records show six other minor accidents that were directly or indirectly caused by the snowy conditions.
Another casualty of the weather was power to residents in Odon and Cannelburg.
Duke Energy and Daviess-Martin REMC were called and power was restored.
