WASHINGTON — Early voting to begin

Early voting in person for the Nov. 6 general election will begin in the office of the Circuit Court Clerk on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Voting will continue Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until noon Monday, Nov. 5. Voters will need to show an Indiana Driver’s License, an Indiana I.D. Card, a U.S. Passport, or other photo I.D. issued by the State of Indiana or the U.S. government.

The clerk’s office, located on the top floor of the courthouse, will also be open Saturday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for those voters who cannot make it to the office during regular hours. Persons requiring a ballot be mailed to them, or needing assistance to vote should contact the voter registration office at 254-8679.

NRA Youth Day  upcoming

Pike County Birdhunter’s Club and the National Rifle Association present the 7th Annual NRA Youth Day Oct. 13. Kick off will be at 8 a.m. at the Pike County Birdhunters’ Club. All youth ages 7 through 18 are welcome. Bring your own shotgun or one will be furnished — 12, 20, 410 and .22 rifle shells provided.

Bird walk, program set

Join DVD author Joe LaFleur for a guided bird walk from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Oct. 9 at Spring Mill State Park. The walk features hands-on identification of birds in habitats like woodland and wetland. Beginners are welcome.

Meet at the Nature Center, and bring binoculars if you have them. From 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. LaFleur will provide an audiovisual program about common migrant birds.  The program will help you identify birds by sight and sound and will also review preferred habitats and how to attract each species to your yard. Eagles bingo, Thursday, with early, early birds at 6 p.m.; early bingo at 6:30 p.m.; and regular bingo at 7 p.m.
