MONTGOMERY —
Area farmers interested in learning to apply their own chemicals, or licensed applicators looking for continuing education credits, can attend a free program sponsored by Traylor Fertilizer and BASF.
The On Target Application Academy will begin at 6 p.m. Monday at the Traylor Fertilizer seed warehouse. Presenter Bob Wolf, who partners with BASF to teach the academy, is renowned worldwide for training pesticide applicators. He’ll discuss topics such as new products currently in the pipeline that will be in the marketplace in the next few years and preventing drift.
“We’re doing more overhead application,” said Greg Traylor. “We need to do what we can to prevent herbicide drift.”
According to Traylor, the information Wolf will introduce isn’t always readily available to farmers. He said attendees will see unique demonstrations and learn about best practices and new equipment technologies during the program.
“The program looks like it’s very well put together and is going to be very informative,” he added. “When the opportunity was given to us to offer this program, we looked at it as a good opportunity to bring it here so local farmers can benefit from it.”
Farmers not already licensed to apply their own chemicals will not become certified by attending the On Target Application Academy, but already licensed applicators will receive credit toward maintaining their licenses. The Indiana State Chemist’s Office charges a $10 fee for the credits.
Along with the product and technical knowledge, there will be a free meal and door prizes at the event, Traylor said.
Anyone wishing to attend should RSVP at 486-3285 by Aug. 10.
