There was heavy traffic on Main Street Friday night.
Not vehicles, but people milled about on the corner of Main and Second Streets in the greenspace at the site of the old Meredith Hotel attending the Wine, Cheese and Art Festival organized by the Daviess County Chamber of Commerse.
Local musicians performed original and cover songs. Among those performing were the Rocky Rhoads, Joe Howard, Tyler and Dylan Siedel, Jeff Smith and Devin Kessler. The musicians, widespread in age, covered an assortment of genres from bluegrass to acoustic.
Several area artists had their work on display. One participant was Lee Martin of Washington. Martin has been taking pictures since 1954, opening Martin’s Studio on Main Street where he was in business until 1997. Martin, member of the Northwest Territory Art Guild, has had several of his photographs on display at the Daviess County Historical Society Museum.
“It’s a lot of fun just being able to do something you enjoy and being able to show them to other folks,” Martin said of his work.
Photographs were not the only thing on display at the festival. Jewelry, paintings, drawings and cars were also on exhibit.
“It’s excellent to see the outpouring of the community,” musician Jeff Smith said as he waited for his performance time.
Admission into the festival was $10 in exchange for 10 pink tickets that were used to purchase the wine from local wineries and the cheese from Graham Cheese Corp.
“We’re going to try have an event every month to give people something to do,” said Charles Selby, Executive Director of the Daviess County Chamber of Commerce.
As the sun set behind the line of buildings and the coolness of summer’s end blew through the streets, music filled the air, art filled the greenspace and wine filled the glasses.

Hill arrested on $100K bond
Andrew Logan Hill, 32, Washington, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies on a warrant for petition to revoke a suspended sentence. He remains in the Daviess County Security Center on a $100,000 bond.

Cemetery owners plead for time, help

Following the processional led by North Daviess faculty and juniors Janice Knepp and Cari Jo Wilson, the voluntary invocation will be led by Chelsea Graber. Stacey Beard, class president, will then make welcoming and introductory remarks. -
