Thursday

11:42 a.m. – An employee of Budget Inn, 412 E. South St., reported a blanket and four pillows were missing from a room rented by three females, whose names were given. One of the women was contacted, and she advised she’s in the process of moving and a male helping her move grabbed the pillows and blanket by mistake. She said she would return them.

10:49 a.m. – The manager of Holiday Inn Express, 1808 E. Nat’l Hwy., advised that an employee is going through a divorce and her husband has made threatening calls to the hotel, stating he’s going to bring his gun and kill all the employees. He also texted his wife’s friends, sending pictures of his guns and telling them “the guns are good to go.” Extra patrol was requested. An officer spoke to the man and told him he’s not wanted on the property and to stop the calls.

Wednesday

3:41 p.m. – Leo Becerra, 102 N.W. Ninth St., reported the spare tire was taken from his truck overnight.

COUNTY ACCIDENTS

Thursday

5:47 p.m. – Michael L. Gaines, 42, 1578E 100N, was southbound on SR 57 in his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado when, he stated, a northbound 1996 Ford F150 driven by Joshua L. Ross, 23, Linton, crossed the center line and was driving north in the southbound lane. Gaines said he drove completely off the west side of the road to avoid a collision, but Ross still collided with him near CR 675N.

Ross stated he was northbound and suddenly began to slide sideways and couldn’t correct himself. He said he believes he ran over a patch of ice that caused him to lose control of the pickup.

No injuries were reported at the scene. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, which was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.

Dec. 22

7:14 p.m. – Edwin L. Padgett, 77, Odon, was driving east on CR 250S approaching the intersection with SR 257S in a 1992 Dodge Dakota registered to Edwin and Mary Padgett. Ronald G. Buban, 70, Alpha, Ill., was southbound on SR 257S with Linda Buban, 69, in their 2012 Chevrolet Equinox.

Padgett stated that he stopped at the stop sign and looked both ways, but due to a dip in the road he didn’t see the Buban vehicle approaching. He pulled out onto SR 257S and struck the Buban vehicle.

Linda Buban had a contusion on her head and was transported by Southwest Medical to Daviess Community Hospital to be treated for her injuries. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

Dec. 21

6:04 a.m. – Robert T. Miles, 20, 301 E. Viola Ave., was traveling south on E. Nat’l Hwy. approaching the stop sign at the U.S. 50 bypass. He was driving a 1995 Chevrolet passenger car registered to Dana M. Miles, 1633S 125E. When Miles attempted to stop at the intersection, he was unable to do so because of the slick, icy road condition.

The Chevy slid into the intersection, striking the passenger side of a 2001 Mercury driven by Rita K. Ervin, 54, Loogootee. Ervin said she saw the Miles vehicle enter her lane of traffic but was unable to avoid it. The impact caused Ervin to lose control of her vehicle, and it traveled off the north side of the bypass.

No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

Dec. 21

5:36 a.m. – Eustaquio M. Rovolorio, 39, 110 Vine St., lost control of his 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe on snow and ice at CRs 100W and 900N. The vehicle left the roadway on the west side, overturning in a field. No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

ARRESTS

Tracey L. Webster, 35, Washington, was arrested Thursday by sheriff’s deputies on a writ of attachment. She was released on $2,000 bond.

Brett Alan Carpenter, 32, Washington, was arrested Wednesday by city police for domestic battery, battery to a minor, two counts of strangulation and three counts of neglect of a dependent. He was held at Daviess County Security Center without bond.

Shoals man arrested after being stopped for traffic violation

SHOALS – At approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday Indiana State Police Trooper Jarrod Lents conducted a traffic stop at U.S. 50 and Main Street in Shoals on a white 1990 Chevrolet pickup truck because the driver, Brandon S. Stone, 28, of Shoals, failed to signal a turn from Main Street onto U.S. 50. During the course of the stop, Lents detected the odor of illegal drugs inside the truck. A subsequent search yielded marijuana in excess of 30 grams and drug paraphernalia.

Stone was arrested without incident and transported to the Martin County Jail, where he was held on charges of possession of marijuana, a Class D felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class A infraction.

Martin County Deputy Josh Greene and Shoals Town Marshal Todd Eckert assisted during the investigation.
