B-R School Board to meet Thursday

Area Briefs

WASHINGTON — Barr-Reeve Community Schools Board of School Trustees will meet in executive session at 11 a.m. Thursday. The regular session will be at 11:30 a.m. Items included on the agenda: reorganization; end of year transfers; personnel.

Odon Library Board to meet

The Board of Trustees of the Odon Winklepleck Public Library will meet at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at the library. The annual meeting of the Board of Finance for the library will follow at 6:30 p.m.

Carnegie board meets Thursday

The Board of Finance of the Washington Carnegie Public Library will hold its annual meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday at the library, 300 W. Main St. The regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the board of trustees will be at 5:05 p.m.

Red Cross blood drive Friday

The Daviess County Chapter of the American Red Cross is sponsoring the following blood drives in January.

They include:

Friday - Walmart, 1081 S. SR 57, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Jan. 19 - Knights of Columbus, 319 E. Main St., 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health, and cannot have given blood in the past 56 days.

    Area farmers are feeling the crunch to get crops into the ground as soon as possible. Wet conditions have halted many of the planting days in the last week.  Just five days were suitable for planting as the soil remains too wet in much of the southern portion of the state.

    2:19 p.m. - Debbie Fields, 520 S.E. Second St., reported that her black moped was taken from her residence. The moped had been padlocked.

    Members of the state legislature gave schools a two percent increase but North Daviess Community Schools Superintendent Robert Bell said the corporation will still get funding cuts over the next four years.
