Commissioners to meet Monday

WASHINGTON — SAFS activities for next week

Monday - Mardi Gras Party and American Legion Auxiliary Bingo 9:30 a.m., Enhance Fitness 2:30 p.m.

Tuesday - Romantic Movie and Snack 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday - Valentine’s Breakfast 8:30 a.m., “Nursing Home Information” with Greg Matheis Administrator of Prairie Village 9 a.m., Parkview Village Bingo 10 a.m., Enhance Fitness 2:30 p.m.

Thursday - Bible Study 10 a.m., Crochet Club 1 p.m.

Friday -  Good Samaritan Home Health Bingo 10 a.m., Enhance Fitness 2:30 p.m.

 Free tax service begins.  The free tax service is limited to a $50,000 income level. You must have an appointment. To make your tax appoint call 254-1881.

Commissioners to meet Monday

 Daviess County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Monday in the Commissioners’ Room at the courthouse. Items included on the agenda: appointment of weights and measures inspector; S.I.D.C. services; Bennington levee; Proliance Energy.

City Council meets Monday

Washington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Council Chambers, 200 Harned Ave. Items included on the agenda: presentation of claims.

Board of Public Works and Safety will meet immediately following the Council meeting. Items included on the agenda: discussion/approval of all permits and claims, request by Washington Catholic Community to close streets for annual Summer Social, and amendment to policy concerning utility write-offs.

Pike County school board to meet

Pike County School Corporation Board of School Trustees will meet in executive session at 6 p.m. Monday. The open session will be at 7 p.m.

Delta Theta Tau meets Monday

Delta Theta Tau, Gamma Gamma Chapter, will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Bethel North parsonage.

Board to meet

Barr-Reeve Community Schools Board of School Trustees will meet in executive session at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The regular session will be at 11:30 a.m. Items included on the agenda: 2012-2014 school calendar; ECA coach recommendation; junior class sponsor stipend; kindergarten roundup.

  • Republicans to vote on new trustee

    Republicans from Washington Township will meet today to vote on a new township trustee.
    Fifteen committee chairmen from Washington Township will vote at 8:45 a.m. today to fill the position following the death of Albert “Pete” Showalter, who died on April 13.

    CITY REPORT
    Thursday
    1:03 a.m. - Karen Hulsey, of 511 S. Meridian St. reported a subject possibly hiding the bushes behind her residence. She stated she didn’t see anyone, but could hear coughing.

  • School board approves new handbooks

    Members of the Washington Community Schools Board approved the 2013- 2014 school handbooks.  Elementary, junior high and high school student handbooks will now be more streamlined with one another. One major change to the handbooks will be a stricter attendance policy for students. Currently, students in the school district can have 10 unexcused absences per semester.

    Members of the Washington High School DECA Chapter will be hosting a DECA Dodgeball Tournament on Tuesday in the Hatchet House beginning at 6:30 p.m.

  • Area Briefs

    Road paving in Washington

    The Indiana Department of Transportation is advising motorists to be aware of temporary lane restrictions on Bus. 50 in Washington.  Beginning on or after Monday, May 20, crews will be spot paving throughout the city. Work will be accomplished one lane at a time and utilize flag persons to control traffic through the work zones. Work activities are scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day with all paving operations anticipated to be complete by May 24. Inclement weather will cancel the work operation for the day.

    Wednesday
    2:19 p.m. - Dave Waters, 200 1/2 SE 7th St., reported that someone had broken into his storage building and broke the windows out of the vehicles stored there. Waters also said that someone had smashed in the roofs on many of the vehicles. Extra patrol was requested.
