DCCF Youth Council to meet

Area Briefs for Saturday

WASHINGTON — Wheatland yard sale today

Wheatland United Methodist Church will host a town-wide yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There will also be food available at the church. Funds raised will go towards improvement projects at the church and Roosevelt Mission in Linton.

CPR class today

There will be a CPR/PR, AED and First Aid class from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Daviess County Family YMCA. Cost is $60.

Feed My

Sheep today


Feed My Sheep will distribute groceries from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 601 W. Oak St. There will be no admittance to the building until 9 a.m. and the doors will be locked at 1 p.m.

Groceries will be distributed at the Odon Nazarene Church, SR 58, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday for persons with Odon and Elnora addresses.

Emergency food will only be given by referral from another agency. Connections can be reached at 257-2650

Feed My Sheep is a food-help program for residents of Daviess County. If you have any questions for Feed My Sheep, call 254-5429 and leave a message.

DCCF Youth Council to meet

The Daviess County Community Foundation Youth Council will hold the first meeting of the 2012-2013 school year on Sunday. New members who have not attended an orientation session will meet at 2 p.m. in the Foundation office and the regular meeting will start at 3:30 p.m. that day. All members should call Deborah at 254-9354 to let her know if they will be in attendance.

Bethany holding new church tours

Bethany Christian Church is hosting a Look and Lunch at its new building site on SR 57S in Washington from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Everyone is invited to a free lunch and tour of Bethany’s new church building. The scheduled opening of the new building is planned for late fall.

Montgomery VFD fundraiser

Montgomery Volunteer Fire Dept. will hold a fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or until food is gone) Sunday at Stop and Sea.

On the menu: marinated turkey strips, baked beans and potato salad. Goodwill donations will be accepted. Donations go toward buying and maintenance of equipment.

WHS Band Boosters to meet

Washington High School and Junior High band boosters will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the band room. All band parents are encouraged to attend.

    The Team Todd Relay for Life team will be joining with Tri-State Wrestling to bring an event to the Old Petersburg Gym on Saturday. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with bell time at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 and children under 4 are free. All proceeds from the event go to the Daviess County Relay for Life Team Todd.

    The Dollar General Literacy Foundation announced an award of $7,800 to the Washington Carnegie Public Library to support the new adult literacy program being now being offered.

    Fifty-five years ago Jerry Decker wrote letters back home to his sweetheart, Carol, from Camp Pendleton, California where he was based in the Marine Corps. Fifty-five years later, Jerry still had his letters from Carol.  But Carol, now Jerry¹s wife of 52 years, had, well misplaced a few of hers.

    11:08 p.m. - A female caller reported a power outage on Old U.S. 50 W. Line crews responded, but were not able to restore electricity due to a faulty underground line. The line was fixed Wednesday.

  • Shoals graduation set

    Commencement exercises will be held in the gymnasium of the Shoals Junior-Senior High School at 2 p.m. Saturday for 36 candidates for graduation. The Junior-Senior High School Band, under the direction of Joel Weitkamp, will open the commencement program with the processional, followed by the national anthem.
