Habitat accepting applications for 2010 house

Daviess County Habitat for Humanity met

Oct. 26 at their office on the corner of E.

Nat’l Highway and S.W. First Street.

Old business included discussion about

two new build sites donated by Doug Camp-ton

located in Washington and one site in

Elnora donated by Barbara Waggoner. At the

last meeting, acceptance of the Elnora site

was tabled until it was determined whether

or not it was located in the new flood plain.

At the October meeting the motion to accept

the donation was passed since it does not sit

in the new flood plain. The possibility of

dividing it into two lots was also discussed

but not resolved.

It was decided Habitat would submit an

entry for the Christmas Parade set for Nov.

28.

The decision to start accepting applications

for the 2010 build was also approved. Any

Daviess County resident desiring to submit

an application for Habitat house can pick up

an application form at the Daviess County

Chamber of Commerce, the Washington

mayor’s office, the Washington Post Office

or it can be downloaded from the Daviess

County Habitat for Humanity Web site at

www.habitatforhumanitofdaviesscounty.com.

Deadline for submitting applications is

Jan. 15, 2010. Qualifications for applicants

can be found on the Web site. DCHH has

build sites available in Washington, Plainville

and Elnora.

The current project on N.E. 15th and E.

Van Trees streets in Washington is pro-gressing

as expected.

The exterior is nearly finished with the

completion of the siding and builders are

ready to start on the interior once the wall-board

delivery is made.

Volunteers are always needed for con-struction.

Work is done every Tuesday and

Thursday beginning at 4 p.m. All interest-ed

people are welcome. Construction expe-rience

is preferred but not required.

Also always welcome are those individ-uals,

businesses and organizations willing

to donate meals for those working at the

build site. If you are interested in donating

food or meals for the volunteers, call Dawn

Craney at 259-4025.

The next scheduled meeting of Daviess

County Habitat for Humanity is Nov. 23.
