Museum welcomes new funeral home display

Washington’s Main Street from 1872, including simulated dirt, a real wooden sidewalk, a mural of a horse-drawn trolley and the facade of the first funeral home in Daviess County, has been depicted on the fourth floor of the Daviess County Museum.

Long-time local funeral director Jim Pirkle and his wife, Margaret, using an enormous collection of funeral home antiques and artifacts have created a legacy for the local community. Pirkle said, to his knowledge, this is the only such display east of the Mississippi.
