COUNTY ACCIDENTS
Monday
3:17 p.m. — Steve R. Evans, 55, Bedford, was driving a 2007 Peterbilt dump truck registered to Young Trucking, Unionville, and Kyle J. Ray, 25, Heltonville, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet dump truck registered to Arthur Management LLC, Bedford; both were hauling material on I-69 for the construction project. They were both headed in the same direction on the northbound lanes, in the lane closest to the median.
Evans swung left to make a wide right turn across the median at a temporary crossover, thinking Ray was farther behind him. Ray continued straight in the original lane thinking Evans was turning left. Evans started to turn and his vehicle was struck in the side by Ray’s vehicle. Damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
Monday
3:08 p.m. — Sheila Miller, 29, Montgomery, was making a right turn from a private drive at 1101S 550E, south onto CR 550E in a 2000 Chevrolet Express extended van registered to Freddie J. Stoll. At the same time, Gary L. Rasico, 54, Loogootee, was northbound on CR 550E in a 2002 International semi with hopper-type trailer registered to Traylor Trucking Service Inc., Montgomery, and had just topped a hill.
Miller stated she stopped and looked both ways before pulling out but didn’t see the approaching vehicle because of the hill. She stated she pulled too far into the northbound lane and was struck by the semi. Rasico said he attempted to pull as far to the right as he could, but he couldn’t avoid striking the van when it pulled into his lane.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
