WASHINGTON — CITY REPORT

Monday

12:16 p.m. — Kevin Hoff, 101 Westwood Gate, Apt. 2, advised someone tried to take his moped overnight. It was locked and chained on the front porch. When Hoff heard a noise and went out to check on it, a male subject ran away. A description was given.

11:23 a.m. — A caller from Lena Dunn Elementary, 801 N.W. 11th St., reported someone pried the lock off a shed and took two weedeaters and a gas can. He requested extra patrol.

12:05 a.m. — A female caller reported hearing subjects arguing in Maple Street and something about guns and knives. Jackie S. Miles, 48, will be long-formed for possession of a handgun without a permit, intimidation and battery. Two juveniles also will be long-formed for battery by means of a deadly weapon and intimidation.

Sunday

9:18 p.m. — Robert Mahan, 1207 Washington Ave., reported someone broke into his residence through a front porch window and took a shotgun and his wife’s medication.

6:12 p.m. — Brenda Williams advised the glass was broken out of the drivers-side mirror on her 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser while it was parked on the south side of Sunset Towers Friday evening.

3:06 p.m. — An employee of Walmart, 100 Bypass 50 Plaza, requested an officer for a belligerent male shoplifter.

12:32 p.m. — Tim McHugh, owner of Q’s Pub advised someone took the coin changers out of one of his soda machines with $70 or $80 dollars in it.

9:08 p.m. — A car/deer accident was reported on the bypass near McAllister’s. The driver, in a 2002 Chevrolet Express, pulled into the Walmart parking lot to get off the road. The vehicle’s radiator was busted. A field report was made.

7:46 p.m. — A caller advised he hit a deer at CRs 700E and 900S. The deer was dead and little damage was reported to the Ford F150 extended-cab pickup that hit it.

10:07 a.m. — A caller advised her husband’s 2003 Ford F150 was taken from Redbone’s parking lot in Montgomery earlier in the morning. The truck was seen at Lakeview Restaurant. It was located, processed and returned to the owner.

COUNTY ACCIDENT

Friday

1:03 p.m. — Mae Arford, 90, Odon, was eastbound on CR 1650N in a 1994 Oldsmobile Achieva, registered to Mae and Raymond Arford, when she apparently passed out near CR 1000E. The vehicle crossed the center line and struck a tree. Arford was wearing a seatbelt and her airbag deployed. She had minor bleeding to her head. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

ARRESTS

Shaun D. Osborn, 33, Washington, was arrested by city police Saturday on two counts of battery and one of public intoxication. He was held at Daviess County Security Center on $6,000 bond.

Richard A. Walton, 49, Washington, was arrested Friday by sheriff’s deputies on a warrant for petition to revoke a suspended sentence. He was held on $10,000 bond.

1:03 a.m. - Karen Hulsey, of 511 S. Meridian St. reported a subject possibly hiding the bushes behind her residence. She stated she didn’t see anyone, but could hear coughing.

School board approves new handbooks
Members of the Washington Community Schools Board approved the 2013- 2014 school handbooks. Elementary, junior high and high school student handbooks will now be more streamlined with one another. One major change to the handbooks will be a stricter attendance policy for students. Currently, students in the school district can have 10 unexcused absences per semester.

Road paving in Washington

The Indiana Department of Transportation is advising motorists to be aware of temporary lane restrictions on Bus. 50 in Washington. Beginning on or after Monday, May 20, crews will be spot paving throughout the city. Work will be accomplished one lane at a time and utilize flag persons to control traffic through the work zones. Work activities are scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day with all paving operations anticipated to be complete by May 24. Inclement weather will cancel the work operation for the day.

2:19 p.m. - Dave Waters, 200 1/2 SE 7th St., reported that someone had broken into his storage building and broke the windows out of the vehicles stored there. Waters also said that someone had smashed in the roofs on many of the vehicles. Extra patrol was requested.
