Diffie, Wills to headline Trot

MONTGOMERY — The 39th annual Turkey Trot festival will feature two premiere entertainers.

On Friday night, the well-known Joe Diffie will be on stage. Diffie is considered to be “the man with the golden voice.”

Some popular songs include “Ships That Don’t Come In,” “Pickup Man,” “John Deere Green,” or “If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets).”

Diffie first topped charts in 1990 with “Home.” He then continued a steady pace as he stayed true to his roots and delivered hit after hit and finally tallying up 12 No. 1 hits. He also had twenty top 10’s and four gold and platinum albums.

Diffie has won a Grammy, countless CMA awards, and has  been honored as Humanitarian of the Year by the Country Music Broadcasters. He also is an avid member of the Grand OIe Opry, recorded with George Jones, and has toured the country many of times.

His performance will take place on stage starting at 8:15 p.m.

The feature presentation at the Turkey Trot Festival for Saturday is country performer Mark Wills.

Wills has scored eight top-ten hits and was named The Academy of Country Music’s Top New Male Vocalist in 1999. He has been recognized as one of country music’s top male performers, carving  a niche for himself by creating his own moving renditions of certain R&B love songs.

His hit-jammed musical legacy includes the unforgettable tunes of “Places I’ve Never Been,” “I Do Cherish You,” and “She’s In Love.” Wills quickly ignited his popularity at the start of the millennium with the No. 1 hit “19 Somethin’.” The single spent six weeks atop the charts. It was named the top country hit of the year in 2002 by both Billboard and Radio Records Magazines.

The show will kickoff at 8:30 p.m. on the stage. There is a $10 admission fee and open bleacher seating if you choose to arrive early.
