WASHINGTON —
Shoals Junior/Senior High School will hold its commencement at 2 p.m. Saturday in the high school gymnasium.
Following the processional and national anthem performed by the high school band, Darek Turpin will welcome guests and graduates. The invocation by Alanna Dawley will follow.
After a musical presentation by the high school band and choir, Darek Turpin will give the salutatorian speech, followed by the valedictorian speech by Rachel Harder.
Harder was born on Oct. 25, 1993, to Kevin and Joni Harder. She has one sibling, Nicole. She has been involved in SADD Club, Beta Club, Spanish Club, Spell Bowl, IMPACCT Club, Student Council, class officer, Service Learning Club, peer mentor, library aide, elementary Title 1 and kindergarten aide, 10-year 4-H member, summer reading, media, basketball and was captain for two years, volleyball and softball. Harder’s favorite pastimes include going to the movies, eating with friends, going to the lake, and getting everyone together at Vic’s. She plans to attend college, get her degree, and to start her family.
Turpin was born on Nov. 2, 1993, to Dana and Diana Turpin. He has one sister, Danielle Turpin. His high school activities were basketball, baseball, soccer, Beta, SADD, Spanish Club and Student Council. His favorite pastimes are sports. Turpin plans to get a degree, make a lot of money, and retire as soon as possible.
Denise Cornett, senior class president, will give a video presentation of the Class of 2012 and David Springer, principal, will then present the class for the presentation of diplomas by Tony Cundiff, school board president, and Dr. Anthony Nonte, superintendent.
Following acceptance of the Class of 2012 by Dr. Nonte, Denise Cornett will give the farewell address. Ethan Jones, junior class president, and Jessica Courtright, junior class vice president, will present the class flower and the recessional will follow.
The class has chosen the stargazer as its flower and black and silver for its colors. The class motto is, “What we hold of yesterday is only a memory, but tomorrow is an accomplishment that is yet to be made.”

WHS wins SeaPerch title
Washington’s SeaPerch teams took home gold at last Saturday’s national competitions at the IUPUI Natatorium.
The WHS NJROTC STEM team won first overall out of 100 teams competing at the national finals. The NJROTC team took first in the obstacle course and the deep water transfer portions of the competition, and received special recognition in the technical innovation.

Washington man arrested on molestation charge
A Washington man was arrested Friday for one count of child molesting. Jacob Tyler Taylor, 19, 603 E. Main St., Apt. 3, was arrested by city police for a count of Class B felony child molesting.

Lyons gets 65 years
Dressed in a bright green jumpsuit and escorted by members of the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, Corey Mitchell Lyons, 23, entered the court room, and sat hunched over a table with his family sitting behind. On the other side of the room sat family members of a baby who's was life was taken too soon and the mother of Lyons’ child Savanna Johnson.

8:36 a.m. - An employee of Fast Max, 1200 E. Nat’l Hwy., reported a drive-off worth $16.09. The driver was identified via video and after contact, went back and paid for the gas. A debit card malfunction was blamed. -

Washington High School Class of 1968 is planning a casual reunion to be held at 7 p.m. June 22 at Mulligan’s. Light refreshments and a cash bar will be provided. -
Four arrested in meth bust
Four Washington residents were arrested Friday night following a meth lab bust.
At 1:40 a.m. Friday, city officers noticed a smell near 902 W. Walnut St.

Republicans from Washington Township will meet today to vote on a new township trustee.
Fifteen committee chairmen from Washington Township will vote at 8:45 a.m. today to fill the position following the death of Albert “Pete” Showalter, who died on April 13. -
