WASHINGTON — Hatchets drop match to Bedford

Bedford North Lawrence defeated Washington, 25-22, 25-23, 25-20, in volleyball Thursday.

Amber Taylor had 13 assists for Washington. Araina Fidler had 10 digs, Paige Hawthorne had nine digs and Rachel Chattin had seven kills.

Lions unbeaten in Blue Chip

LOOGOOTEE — Class A No. 2 Loogootee defeated North Knox, 25-12, 25-21, 25-13, Thursday to remain perfect in the Blue Chip Conference.

The Lions (14-3, 4-0) were led by 18 kills from Michala Beasley, 40 kills and eight service points by Demi Richardson 14 digs, 13 points and nine kills from Abby Ackerman, 12 kills from Christina Ziegler, eight digs by Waylee Wagoner and seven digs by Remington Wagler.

North Daviess tops Cardinals

North Daviess defeated Washington Catholic, 25-20, 25-14, 25-6, at the Birdcage Thursday.

Madison Reed had 14 assists, four digs, two aces and two kills for the Cougars (11-6). Lenzi Brewer had six assists and five digs, Alexis Brewer 11 digs and three assists, Taylor Jeffers eight digs, four kills and aces.

Larynda Keith had seven digs, Jessica Miller had eight aces, four digs and five kills, Cari Jo Wilson four kills, Chandra Bruner four kills, Janae Wagler two kills and Morgan Wadsworth two kills.

Washington Catholic rallies

Class A No. 8 Washington Catholic rallied with the match’s final three goals to defeat Blue Chip Conference foe Vincennes Rivet, 4-2, at Rees Field Thursday.

Brantly Smith scored the match’s first goal before Christian Courtney scored twice for the Patriots.

Colton Reed tied the match for Washington Catholic (10-0-1) before Blaine Fuhs and Brody Wilson completed the 4-2 final.

Lions defeat Vikings

MONTGOMERY — Loogootee defeated Barr-Reeve, 3-2, in a Blue Chip Conference tennis match Thursday.

In singles, Loogootee’s Conner Wittmer defeated Jeff Parsons, 6-1, 6-1, Barr-Reeve’s Tyler Bennett defeated Jesse Horney, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Barr-Reeve’s John Cangelosi defeated Tylan Norris, 6-3, 7-5.

In doubles, Loogootee’s Waylon Matthews-Gabe Nolley topped Trevor Steiner-Wyatt Helms, 6-0, 6-0, and Loogootee’s Tyler Booker-Will Nonte defeated Clay Cummings-Colten Lottes, 6-0, 6-2.

In junior varsity matches, Barr-Reeve’s Zach Graber defeated Jayce Wagoner, 8-3.

In doubles, Loogootee’s Hayden Bell-Jordan Berry defeated Zack Tanksley-Blake Hoover, 8-2, Landon Diamond-Pryce Hedrick defeated Sam and Max Craney, 8-2, and Seth Wagler-Trysten Booker defeated Seth Graber-Gage Miller, 8-1.

Cougar netters top Miners

LINTON — North Daviess won two singles matches and both doubles to hand Linton a 4-1 Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference tennis loss Thursday.

Scott Woodruff defeated Mitchell Cox in straight 6-1 sets, and Trevor Wikle defeated Zach McGill, 6-4, 6-0.

In doubles, Lane Heshelman-Braden Lawyer won against Alex Wilson-Andrew Woods, 6-1, 6-0, and Lane Fulton-Trent Bowman defeated Dalton VanPatten-Dane Kanen in straight 6-0 sets.

Linton’s Cody Kocher defeated Evan Hawk, 6-2. 6-3.

Meadows fourth for Cougars

JASONVILLE — Jenna Meadows placed fourth for North Daviess in a dual cross country meet at Shakamak Thursday.

Meadows ran in a time of 25:09.

She was followed by: Samantha Porter, fifth, 26:10; McKenzie Roark, sixth, 26:32; Hannah VanderMel, seventh, 28:26.

CJ Thompson ran in 21:18 for the boys team. Brian Asdell was eighth in 21:45.

Vikings dispatch Hatchets

Barr-Reeve defeated Washington in a pair of junior high volleyball matches Thursday night to remain undefeated.

The seventh grade defeated the Hatchets 25-12, 25-15. Anne Graber led Barr-Reeve with 17 points.

The Vikings won the eighth grade match, 25-7 and 25-10. Hannah Graber paced Barr-Reeve with 20 points.  

Senior event at Country Oaks

MONTGOMERY — Country Oaks is hosting its fourth annual Senior Open Friday.

The 18-hole stroke-play event is for persons ages 50 and above. Flights for competition are 50 to 59, 60-69 and 70 and above.

The youngest group plays green tees, middle plays white and the eldest red.

Gross and net winners will be determined in each flight. Entries determine payout.

Entry is $40 for non-members and $24 for members without a cart pass, $16 with a cart pass.

Entry deadline is Tuesday.Entries may be obtained at the club’s pro shop, or by calling Country Oaks at 486-3300.

Fall softball league forming

Washington High School softball is sponsoring a fall fast pitch league for area high school girls.

The games will be played at the Washington Sports Complex on five Sunday afternoons, beginning Sept.  30 through Oct. 28.  The league is hoping to play two games per Sunday, depending upon the number of players registered. The cost is $20 per player. The fee will be used to help defray the cost of officials.  

Registration forms are available from all area high school softball coaches, the Washington athletic office, and the End Zone.  

Forms need to be returned by Sept. 24.
