WASHINGTON —
The Washington volleyball team won its second consecutive match, defeating Pike Central, 17-25, 23-25, 25-21, 26-24, 15-10, at the Hatchet House.
Paige Hawthorne paced Washington (2-0) with 26 digs while Rachel Chattin added 25. Chattin also had 10 kills and Hawthorne nine.
Amber Taylor provided 11 assists and Hawthorne had two. Megan Arnold had three blocks to go with two from Lauren Terry.
Hatchets second
VINCENNES — Washington placed second in a girls triangular golf match at the Country Club of Old Vincennes Wednesday.
Vincennes Rivet won the match with a 166 team score, Washington shot 209 and South Knox placed third with 215.
“We took a bit of a step backward in our early season progress,” Washington coach Morris Petty said. “Our young players struggled with a course they have never seen.”
Kayla Mercer paced Washington (19-20) with 44. Natalya Meinhart shot 52, Haven Lunsford 53, Cheyenne Jones 60, Jonna Williams 63 and Liz Sievers 68.
Rivet’s Carly Waggoner was medalist with 40.
“With this being the new sectional course, we will play it four or five more times,” Petty said.
“Hopefully, we can familiarize ourselves with the holes and be ready when that time comes.”
Cardinals stop Shoals
SHOALS — Washington Catholic got goals from two players to hand Shoals a 3-1 a Blue Chip boys soccer loss.
Colton Reed opened the scoring for Washington Catholic (1-0, 1-0) with an assist from Christian Neace.
Brantly Smith then scored with an assist from Josh Fiscus. Reed got his second counter to end the match’s scoring through a penalty kick.

Wagler places 2nd in 1600 meters
Loogootee’s Zach Wagler placed second and fourth in two events at Thursday's boys track sectional.
Wagler placed second in the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:33.15, and was fourth in the 3,200 meters in 10:21. -

Taylor Jeffers and Madison Reed were named All-Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference in tennis by winning first doubles at the conference meet.

Bloomfield eliminates ND
Bloomfield eliminated North Daviess, 4-1, Wednesday in the opening round of the girls tennis sectional.
Madison Reed-Taylor Jeffers won for North Daviess at first doubles, defeating Lexi Place-Emily Bucher, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
In singles, Cari Jo Wilson, Brytni Bray and Nicole Woodruff were defeated, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 respectively.
Caitlin Chestnut-Michael Sprinkle were also defeated at second doubles in straight 6-2 sets. -
Graber has two-hitter
Lucas Graber held Bloomfield to two hits and Barr-Reeve's offense did the rest in a 10-0 six-inning baseball victory Tuesday.
