North Daviess has forfeited a girls basketball win against Shakamak after a rule was misinterpreted during the Jan 8 game played at Jasonville.
A North Daviess player was ejected from the junior varsity game played that evening after continuing to contest a loose ball after the whistle had blown for a jump ball.
Players ejected from games must not play in the team¹s next game as a form of suspension.
Members of the North Daviess coaching staff checked with the varsity officials at the site to see if the suspension started with the varsity game.
It was the interpretation of the officials that the suspension must be served at the level of the game played, but misinterpreted that players must not play in other games before the suspension is served.
North Daviess self reported to the IHSAA, and was told the forfeit would be in affect.
North Daviess had defeated the Lakers, 38-37, in the Southwestern Indiana Conference game.
The loss dropped the Cougars to their present record of 14-4 overall, and
6-1 in the conference. North Daviess had been leading the conference with a
7-0 mark, but now is tied with White River Valley at 6-1.
Each team has one conference game remaining.

WHS camp is Monday
The Washington Hatchet's Summer Tennis Camp begins Monday at the Lena Dunn Elementary School courts.
Boys and girls entering grades three through eight this coming school year wishing to participate may register when the camp begins at 9 a.m. The camp continues each day until 10:30 a.m. through Thursday.
Each player should bring a racket (one can be provided), a towel and a water bottle.
