WEST LAFAYETTE —
Connor Sorrells placed second, Damon Pruett third and Jarit Perkins fifth as Barr-Reeve placed fifth in the Purdue Invitational Saturday.
Sorrells ran in 16:16 to place second behind Terre Haute South’s Jason Bertoli who ran in 15:46.
Pruett was one second behind Sorrells and Viking Jarit Perkins was fifth in 16:30.
Indianapolis Brebeuf won the team event with 54 points. Homestead was second with 89 points, Terre Haute South was third with 97, followed by Crown Point (101), Barr-Reeve (105), West Lafayette (122), Lowell (132), West Harrison (233), Columbia City (255) and Pioneer (300).
Other Viking finishers were: Martin Winkler, 49th; Kurt Bauer, 76th; Stephen Lang, 78; Chayse Wagler, 102; Josh Graber, 109; Jeremy Graber, 141st; Ethan Duncheon, 168th; and Thomas Quast, 187.
Loogootee tops Patriots, 5-0
LINCOLN CITY — Loogootee blanked Heritage Hills, 5-0, in tennis Saturday.
Conner Wittmer, Jesse Horney and Tylan Norris each won singles matches for Loogootee (5-2): 6-1, 6-1; 6-0, 6-1; and 6-1, 6-0 scores respectively.
Waylon Matthews-Gabe Nolley won in doubles, 6-1, 6-4, as did Tyler Booker-Will Nonte, 6-4, 6-0.
“I was glad to see us bounce back from a tough loss,” Loogootee coach Rick Graves said.
“I was most pleased that we showed mental toughness. Through our previous matches, we’ve let our concentration waver some and let opponents hang in matches. We played well throughout the lineup.”
Cam Hedrick won an 8-4 win in a junior varsity match.
Lions 2nd at Lafayette
LAFAYETTE — Loogootee won its bracket at the Lafayette Central Catholic volleyball invitational Saturday, and placed second overall.
The Lions (6-2) defeated Calumet Christian, 23-25, 25-17, 15-12, and West Lafayette, 25-17, 25-23.
The Lions lost in the bracket to Andrean, 25-19, 25-18.
Eastern Greene then defeated the Lions, 25-27, 25-15, 15-8, in the championship match.
In the four matches, Demi Richardson had 105 assists and seven digs. Michala Beasley had 52 kills and 12 service points, Christina Ziegler 34 kills, Lauren Bowling 48 digs and 14 points, Waylee Wagoner 34 digs and Abby Ackerman 20 kills and 13 points.
Cougars 3rd at Lincoln Classic
VINCENNES — North Daviess defeated Flora, Ill., for third place in the Screen Printing Plus Classic in volleyball Saturday at Vincennes Lincoln.
The Cougars (6-2) defeated Vincennes Rivet, 25-10, 16-25, and 15-13 and then topped South Knox, 25-18, 25-21.
Evansville Mater Dei defeated North Daviess, 25-16, 25-10 before North Daviess defeated Flora, 25-19, 25-18.
For the day, Alexis Brewer had 43 digs and 31 assists, Madison had 34 assists, Taylor Jeffers 25 digs and 19 kills, Chandra Bruner 21 kills, Larynda Keith 23 digs, Janae Wagler 13 kills, Jessica Miller six blocks and Cari Jo WIlson three blocks.
“We were in a tough pool,” North Daviess coach Rebecca Hays said. “The girls played hard, but we couldn’t get past Evansville Mater Dei. I was very pleased to come away 3-1.”
Mater Dei took first place with a 25-9, 25-12 win against the host Alices in the championship game.
Rivet defeated Pike Central, 25-14, 25-17 for fifth place, and South Knox defeated South Spencer, 25-11, 25-11 for seventh.
Hatchets, Cougars at Rivet
VINCENNES — Three Washington golfers and the North Daviess team participated in the Vincennes Rivet Invitational at the Country Club of Old Vincennes Saturday.
Natalya Meinhart shot 92, Cheyenne Jones 98 and Haven Lunsford 101, for the Hatchets.
“The three girls all played pretty well,” Hatchet coach Morris Petty said. “We are improving as we wind down our season.”
North Daviess was paced by Maggie Swartzentruber at 102, Meghan Knepp 113, Kirsten Madsen 117, Rachel Wagler 123 and Andrea Knepp, 126.
Jasper shot 309 to win the 13-team event.
Bloomington South (315) was second followed by Vincennes Rivet (317), North Posey (332), Bedford North Lawrence (347), Gibson Southern (348), Monrovia (374), South Knox (403), North Knox (409), Linton (419) and North Daviess (455).
Rivet’s Carly Waggoner and Bloomington South’s Cherise Otter tied for medalist with rounds of 70.
Two Hatchets win groups
EVANSVILLE — Jake Bedwell and Zack Walker won their groups in the Evansville Mater Dei junior varsity tennis tournament at Wesselman Park Saturday.
Bedwell and Walker each went undefeated, winning three matches.
Bedwell won the advanced group division while Walker won the beginner group.
Michael Ramsey finished 2-1 in the advanced group for Washington while Jayden Barley was 1-2.
Clay Walker, Kaden Pfender and Juan Vicente were all 1-2 in intermediate group competition.
Nick Fisher finished 2-1 and Christian Andis 1-1 in the beginner group.
Vikings top Dubois
MONTGOMERY — Barr-Reeve remains undefeated in four matches with a 25-16, 26-24, 25-15 Blue Chip Conference volleyball win Friday.
The Vikings (4-0, 2-0 Blue Chip), were led by 13 assists by Jenna Knepp and 10 by Cori Cummings.
Tiara Kenney had 12 service points and Hania Sisco 10 kills.
Hannah Bullock recorded 11 digs.
The Vikings also won the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-24.
Lions volley past Pike Central
LOOGOOTEE — Loogootee defeated Pike Central, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-11 Thursday.
Michala Beasley had 21 kills for Loogootee.
Demi Richardson had 39 assists and 16 service points with six aces, Lauren Bowling 14 digs and service points. Abby Ackerman and Christina Ziegler 12 kills each.
Waylee Wagoner and Kailye Robins had five digs each.
Vikings win both volleyball invites
MONTGOMERY — Barr-Reeve won its junior high volleyball tournament Saturday, defeating North Daviess and Loogootee.
The Vikings (4-0) defeated North Daviess, 25-7, 25-23, and then bested Loogootee, 25-20, 25-18, in the eighth grade tournament.
Bethany Wittmer had 18 service points for the Vikings while Peyton Lengacher had 17.
Barr-Reeve (4-0) also won the seventh grade tournament, topping North Daviess, 25-22 and 25-9. They then defeated Shoals, 25-8, 25-19.
Bailey Graber had 27 service points for the Vikings and Tyanna Graber added 20.
Cardinals split matches
The Washington Catholic middle school soccer teams split matches against Evansville Christian and South Knox.
The Washington Catholic girls (1-0-2) tied Evansville Christian, 3-3.
Christina Smith scored twice and Lexi Hornback once.
The boys score was not reported. They are now 0-3.
The teams combined to play a 0-0 co-ed tie with South Knox.
The girls tied Princeton, 1-1, Smith scored for the Cardinals. The boys were defeated, 6-0.
Ducks hosting Blow-Out
The Daviess County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will host a 50 Gun Blow-Out at the Washington Conservation Club, beginning at 10:30 a.m., Oct. 7.
A ham and money shoot begins at 10:30 a.m. That is followed at 12:30 p.m. by a greenwing shoot. A closed match shoot is at 1 p.m.
Fifty guns will be given away. Ticket holders present will receive a chance to win a gun safe with a mystery gun inside.

Wagler places 2nd in 1600 meters
Loogootee’s Zach Wagler placed second and fourth in two events at Thursday's boys track sectional.
Wagler placed second in the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:33.15, and was fourth in the 3,200 meters in 10:21. -

Bloomfield eliminates ND
Bloomfield eliminated North Daviess, 4-1, Wednesday in the opening round of the girls tennis sectional.
Madison Reed-Taylor Jeffers won for North Daviess at first doubles, defeating Lexi Place-Emily Bucher, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
In singles, Cari Jo Wilson, Brytni Bray and Nicole Woodruff were defeated, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 respectively.
Caitlin Chestnut-Michael Sprinkle were also defeated at second doubles in straight 6-2 sets. -
Graber has two-hitter
Lucas Graber held Bloomfield to two hits and Barr-Reeve's offense did the rest in a 10-0 six-inning baseball victory Tuesday.
