WASHINGTON — Washington blanked Princeton, 5-0, in a Big Eight Conference match at Lena Dunn courts Thursday.

Winning single matches for Washington were: Lucas Miller, 6-2, 6-4; Cory Thompson, 6-3, 6-3; and Garrett Burton, 6-1, 6-0.

Winning doubles for the Hatchets were: Matthew Pancake-Tyler Stoll, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1; and Jonathon Harner-Jacob Luttrell, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

“I am proud of the team and the strides they are making,” Washington coach Jason Johnston said. “Lucas is learning what it takes to win at the high school level. Cory maintained a lead throughout. Garrett lost his first service game, but never lost another game.

“After losing the first set, Tyler and Matthew figured out how to return the Princeton serve,” Johnston said. “Jacob and Jon got off to a rough start. After set one, they figured placement and playing smart was the way to go.”

Loogootee tops Cardinals

LOOGOOTEE — Class A No. 1 Loogootee defeated Blue Chip Conference opponent Washington Catholic, 25-9, 25-10, 25-8, at Jack Butcher Arena Thursday.

Lauren Bowling had 14 points and 12 digs for the Lions (8-2, 2-0 Blue Chip). Demi Richardson had 13 assists, 11 points and seven kills and Kailye Robbins had nine digs.

Abby Ackerman and Kelsey Seals had five kills apiece and Emily Bateman had four.

Stats were not reported for Washington Catholic (0-8, 0-4 Blue Chip).

Lions win Blue Chipper

FERDINAND — Loogootee defeated Forest Park, 4-1, in a Blue Chip Conference tennis match Thursday.

“This is our first win over Forest Park in a long time,” Loogootee coach Rick Graves said. “Our seniors told me they had not beaten them in their high school careers.”

The Lions (7-2, 1-1 Blue Chip) won all three singles spots. Conner Wittmer won 6-0, 6-2, Jesse Horney 6-2, 6-3 and Tyler Booker 6-1, 6-4.

Hayden Ball-Will Nonte won for Loogootee, 5-7, 6-0, 6-2. Sam Beckman-Trent Weyer were defeated, 6-1, 6-4.

“We mixed the lineup a bit and I liked the results.” Graves said.

Winning junior varsity matches for the Lions were: Tylan Norris, 8-4; Jordan Berry-Jayce Wagoner, 8-3; and Norris-Trysten Booker, 6-4.

Spartans edge Cougars by 2

VINCENNES — South Knox edged North Daviess in golf, 213-215, at the Country Club of Old Vincennes Thursday.

Maggie Swartzentruber led North Daviess with a round of 51. Meghan Knepp shot 53, Mattie Wagler 55, Rachel Wagler 56 and Kirsten Madsen 59.

Other Cougar scores included Andrea Knepp 62, Madison Spears 63 and Hannah O’Haver 66.

Hatchets run at South Knox

VINCENNES — Emily Matthews placed fifth and Jamal Robinson seventh for Washington in a pair of junior high cross country meets Thursday.

Matthews ran in a time of 14:00 to pace the girls team. Washington did not have enough runners to post a team score.

Maya Gray was 37th in 17:40, Mallory Heller 47th in 18:50 and Mykah Myers 53rd in 24:00.

Robinson ran in 12:12 to lead the Hatchet boys. South Knox won the race with 18 points, Pike Central placed second with 60 and Washington was third with 69.

Following Robinson for the Hatchets were: Curtis Tucker, 14th, 13:28; Wes Edwards, 17th, 13:33; Brady Turner, 18th, 13:40; Shawn Greene, 19th, 13:43; Bradley Decker, 25th, 14:00; Cory Pfender, 41st, 17:27; and Brandon Richter, 42nd, 18:01.

Vikings are still perfect with wins

FERDINAND — Barr-Reeve defeated Forest Park in junior high volleyball matches Thursday to keep both teams perfect on the season with 5-0 records.

The Vikings won the eighth grade match, 25-6, 25-22. Hannah Graber served 14 points and Peyton Lengacher 12.

The seventh grade won 25-4, 25-12. Natalie Schultheis served 16 points and Tyanna Graber 14.

The North Daviess softball team (20-7) defeated Jasper 8-4 Friday night at North Daviess on a Senior Night that meant so much to the home team.

Loogootee’s Zach Wagler placed second and fourth in two events at Thursday's boys track sectional.
Wagler placed second in the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:33.15, and was fourth in the 3,200 meters in 10:21.

Bloomfield eliminated North Daviess, 4-1, Wednesday in the opening round of the girls tennis sectional.
Madison Reed-Taylor Jeffers won for North Daviess at first doubles, defeating Lexi Place-Emily Bucher, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
In singles, Cari Jo Wilson, Brytni Bray and Nicole Woodruff were defeated, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 respectively.
Caitlin Chestnut-Michael Sprinkle were also defeated at second doubles in straight 6-2 sets.
