North Daviess defeats Wood Memorial, stay undefeated

ELNORA — Adam Wagler scored 12 points and Nick Crays 11 as North Daviess defeated Wood Memorial, 50-36, Friday.

The Class A No. 7 Cougars trailed the Trojans, 17-16, at halftime before opening the game in the third with a 17-9 advantage.

North Daviess (6-0) used a balanced attack in the third as Tyler Hostetter and Crays scored four points each.

Wes Lengacher, Kelby Byrer and Dusten Cook each scored three.

The Cougars continued to pull away in the fourth quarter as Wagler scored seven points on a three, a basket and two free throws.

Crays hit five throws and Hosteter added five points on a field goal and three free throws.

The Trojans (0-6) took the 17-16 halftime lead on the strength of a 10-5 second quarter.

Nick Casey scored five points on two field goals and a free throw while Conner Sevier added a field goal and two free throws.

Jonah Day added a three-point basket.

The Cougars had led at the first stop, 11-7, behind five points from Wagler and three from Byrer and Cook.

North Daviess was able to make 15-20 free throws while the Trojans converted 5-8.

North Daviess made 15 field goals (five 3-pointers). Wood Memorial made 11, including three 3-pointers.

Crays ended with five rebounds and assists and three steals. Byrer added five rebounds.

Hostetter ended with nine points for North Daviess. Lengacher, Byrer and Cook had six each.

Seveir and Day each scored nine for the Trojans.

North Daviess won the junior varsity game, 32-29.

    Loogootee’s Zach Wagler placed second and fourth in two events at Thursday's boys track sectional.
    Wagler placed second in the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:33.15, and was fourth in the 3,200 meters in 10:21.

    Bloomfield eliminated North Daviess, 4-1, Wednesday in the opening round of the girls tennis sectional.
    Madison Reed-Taylor Jeffers won for North Daviess at first doubles, defeating Lexi Place-Emily Bucher, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
    In singles, Cari Jo Wilson, Brytni Bray and Nicole Woodruff were defeated, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 respectively.
    Caitlin Chestnut-Michael Sprinkle were also defeated at second doubles in straight 6-2 sets.
