WASHINGTON —
Washington Hatchet baseball's Jalen Hyde set a new Washington single season record for hits and pitched Washington to an 8-7 win against Tell City at the Sports Complex Friday.
Hyde's third-inning single broke the old record of 44 set by Jeremy Hawthorne in 2007.
Hyde lined a 2-1 fastball from Tell City starter Trent Rainey that took a bad hop into the chest and face of Tell City thirdbaseman Dayne Seibert. Seibert left the game after the play.
“It was amazing, the support I got from my teammates,” Hyde said about the new hits mark. “They've been behind me all the way, and have helped give me confidence to drive through the ball.
“The pitch was an inside fastball that I was able to turn on hit down the third base line”
“Tell City led most of the game before Washington scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings for the 8-7 final.
Hyde gave up the seven runs in the first four- but stayed on the mound to get the win after holding the Marksmen scoreless the final three innings.
Brayden Walls hit a bases empty home run ( his fifth of the season ) in the second inning for Washington's first run.
Pat Arvin singled home two runs in Washington's fourth inning, and Eric Long doubled in the three-run fifth.
