WASHINGTON —
Washington remained perfect in the Big Eight Conference with a 4-1 tennis win at Boonville.
The Hatchets won their third conference decision without a loss as Lucas Miller defeated Justin Beard in singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Boonville’s Dalton Simpson defeated Cory Thompson, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(5), and Washington’s Jacob Luttrell topped Austin Collins in straight 6-0 sets.
In doubles, Matthew Pancakse-Tyler Stoll defeated Helfert-Schneider in straight 6-1 sets, and Garrett Burton-Jon Harner blanked Klein-Saltzman, 6-0, 6-0.
“We came out and controlled the match,” Washington coach Jason Johnston said. “We played our style of tennis and controlled our errors.”
Hatchets get 7-0 conference win
VINCENNES — The Washington girls soccer team jumped on Vincennes early and never looked back en route to a 7-0 Big Eight Conference win Tuesday.
Washington (3-4, 1-0 Big Eight) got two goals apiece from Olivia Myers and Lupe Perez.
The Hatchets also got goals from Ashlyn Stoll and Jenna Johnson.
Goalie Mikalya Richardson pitched a shutout, facing one shot in 80 minutes.
Miners stop Hatchets
Linton defeated Washington, 25-16, 24-26, 25-23, 25-20, 15-12, in volleyball Tuesday at the Hatchet House.
Amber Taylor had 20 assists for Washington (4-5), Rachel Chattin had 12 kills, Paige Hawthorne eight digs, Araina Fidler two aces and Megan Arnold two blocks.
Vikings win in three games
MONTGOMERY — Class A No. 1 Barr-Reeve defeated Springs Valley, 25-11, 25-5, 25-15, in volleyball Tuesday.
Molly Wallace served 17 points for the Vikings (10-1). Tanisha Graber added 10 points and 10 digs, Jenna Knepp 17 assists, Tiara Kenney eight kills and Hannah Bullock six kills.
Barr-Reeve (6-1) also won the reserve match, 25-19, 25-24.
Loogootee wins showdown
ELNORA — Class A No. 3 Loogootee defeated North Daviess, 25-14, 25-10, 25-14, Tuesday.
For Loogootee (9-2), Demi Richardson recorded 37 assists and 13 service points, Abby Ackerman had 11 digs and seven kills, Remington Wagler 12 points and eight digs, Waylee Wagoner nine digs and eight points, Michala Beasley 18 kills, Christina Ziegler 14 kills and Kailye Robbins eight digs.
For North Daviess (7-5), Taylor Jeffers had seven digs and six kills, Madison Reed nine assists and five kills, Alexis Brewer 15 digs, Larynda Keith seven digs, Lenzi Brewer six assists and Janae Wagler three kills.
North Daviess won the junior varsity match, 23-25, 25-19, 15-14.
Barr-Reeve loses to Rivet
MONTGOMERY — Vincennes Rivet handed Barr-Reeve a 5-0 Blue Chip tennis loss Tuesday.
Jeff Parsons and Tyler Bennett each suffered straight 6-0 decisions to Dalton Robbins and Aaron Pea respectively.
John Cangelosi was defeated by Alex Stenger, 6-1, 6-0.
Clay Cummings-Wyatt Helms were defeated by Blake Mouzin-Nick Niehaus, 6-0, 6-2, and Rivet’s Colin Wirth-Mitchell Hamilton defeated Colten Lottes-Zach Graber, 6-2, 7-6 (7).
In reserve matches, Barr-Reeve’s Blake Hoover and Zach Tanksley won 8-4 and 8-3 decisions respectively.
Lions blank Cougars
ELNORA — Loogootee defeated North Daviess, 5-0, in tennis Tuesday.
In singles, Conner Wittmer defeated Evan Hawk, 6-0, 6-1, Jesse Horney defeated Scott Woodruff, 6-0, 6-1, and Tyler Booker defeated Braden Lawyer, 6-1, 6-1.
Loogootee’s Waylon Matthews-Gabe Nolley defeated Lane Heshelman-Trevor Wikle, 6-0, 6-1, and Hayden Bell-Will Nonte topped Lane Fulton-Trent Bowman, 6-2, 6-4.
In reserve matches, Jordan Berry defeated Brian Lwayer, 8-3, Wyatt Wade topped Tyler Hostetter, 8-1, and Cam Hendrick-Seth Wagler defeated Lawyer-Hostetter, 8-5.
Wagler wins at Bloomfield
BLOOMFIELD — Loogootee’s Zach Wagler won the Bloomfield Invitational cross country meet Tuesday.
Wagler ran in a time of 18:34 to win the four-team event.
Bloomfield took the team title with a score of 30. Lighthouse Christian was second with 35, Loogootee placed third with 80 and Martinsville was fourth with 88. Linton and Shoals did not have enough runners to score.
Other Loogootee finishers were: Adam Lark, 24th, 24:26; Mac Osborne, 26th, 24:45; Matt Weitkamp, 27th, 25:06; Chase Wilcoxen, 31st, 26:00; David Donnersberger, 33rd, 26:43; and Jon Kresnik, 35th, 28:09.
Ariel Jones placed 14th in the girls race for the Lions. She ran in a time of 33:12.
Bloomfield was the only team with enough runners to score.
Vikings stop Hatchets
Barr-Reeve defeated Washington, 5-0, in junior high tennis Tuesday.
For Washington, losses came to Jake Wilson (8-2), John Rook (8-5) andKaleb Knepp (8-5). Doubles losses were suffered by Ben Lambert-Jacob Overton (8-0), and Hunter Escalera-Caleb Arthur (8-3).
Nate Napier-Jacob Rice also lost a 6-0 decision.
Hatchets win pair against Rivet
Washington won a pair of junior high volleyball matches against Vincenne Rivet Tuesday.
Washington won the eighth grade match, 25-24, 25-15. Rivet won the B match, 25-12.
Washington also won the seventh grade match, 21-25, 25-18, 15-11. The Hatchets also won the B game, 25-5.
Stats needed from coaches
Area varsity coaches are asked to begin sending in stats for their players beginning Monday.
Following is a list of statistics requested for each sport:
Volleyball: Top three players in kills, digs and assists.
Cross country: Best three times for both boys and girls from your school.
Soccer: Top three in goals, shots and assists. For goalies, shots faced and allowed.
Tennis: Records for singles and doubles players.
Golf: Average score for nine and 18-hole rounds and best scores for each player.

Freedom win first game of summer
Trevor Claridge went the distance to give the Washington Freedom its first win of the season in a 10-5 win over Sullivan. After Claridge surrendered one run in each of the first two innings, Washington broke out with a five-run rally in the top of the third. Sullivan crept closer at 5-3 with a run in the bottom of the inning, and Washington added two more runs to extend the lead to 7-3 and put the game out of reach.

WHS season ends Thursday at Country Oaks
Thursday’s golf regional at Country Oaks Golf Club didn’t end with the results the Washington Hatchets were seeking.
The Hatchets placed 14th in a field of 18 teams while shooting a team score of 338.

The NBA Finals are about stars, and boy do we have a star-studded matchup for this year’s championship round. The Miami Heat will be in for another long series when they meet the San Antonio Spurs — a team going for its fifth title since 1999.

Washington’s first doubles team of Rachel Chattin and Audra Stallman were defeated by Evansville Mater Dei’s Emily McAtee and Jenna Smith, 6-4, 6-2, in the opening round of the doubles regional tournament at Bedford North Lawrence Saturday.
