EVANSVILLE — Kayla Mercer shot 95 as Washington placed seventh in the season-opening Central Invitational golf match at Eagle Valley Golf Club.
The Hatchets shot 456 as a team, placing seventh in the eight-team field. Natalya Meinhart (117) and Haven Lunsford and Cheyenne Jones (120) completed team scoring for Washington.
“I was a little disappointed in a few things,” Washington coach Morris Petty said. “We have some girls that just started playing a few weeks ago. We really didn’t putt or chip very well. I believe we will improve. This was just a starting point. We have to go out and try to get better. That’s all we can do.”
Jasper was the team winner with a score of 298. Mckenzie Hillsmeyer shot 68 to pace Jasper.
Ten teams participated in the event.
Two teams did not have enough players to count team scorers.
Washington plays at Bloomington today before hosting the Washington Invitational Friday at Country Oaks.
North Daviess is scheduled to play along with Jasper, Vincennes Lincoln, North and South Knox, Owen Valley, Eastern Greene and Linton complete the field that starts at 3 p.m.
