Sorrells wins, 10 Hatchets advances

WASHINGTON —

PRINCETON- ÊBarr-ReeveÕs Connor Sorrells won two distance races and Washington qualified 10 athletes for next TuesdayÕs regional at Evansville Central in ThursdayÕs track sectional.

Sorrells won the 1,600 meters in 4:17.66 and the 3,200 in 9:27.93. Teammate Damon Pruett placed second in the 3,200 (9:58.56) and third in the 1,600 (4:35.35).

ÒWhat a fantastic night for a track meet!,Ó said B-R coach JayR Perkins. 

ÒConnor Sorrells ran to sectional records in the 1600 and  3200 and looked very comfortable in doing both.  This puts him in position to run well at regional next week.

ÒAlso, Damon Pruett ran a PR in the 1,600 and ran to a comfortable second place in the 3,200. Connor and Damon are both looking forward the great competition next Thursday at Evansville Central.Ó 

Christian Latham, Blaine Arney and Jalen Madison had WashingtonÕs highest individual finishes.

Latham was second in the long jump (20-07 1/4). Arney was second in the high jump (16-1) as was Madison in the discus (142-5).

Latham also placed third in the pole vault (13-0), and joined Arney, Jake Brashear and Trey Parsons to place third in the 400 meter relay (:45.34).

Kade Bowman was third in the shot put (47-11 1/2). Drew Brothers placed third in the 800 meters (2:02.51).

Parsons was fourth in the 2000 (:23.89).

Brothers, KC Heller, Austin Gray and Logan Sipes were fourth in the 3,200 relay (8:33.46).

Zach Baker had the highest finish for North Daviess with a third place in the 300 hurdles (:45.90).

Gibson Southern won the event with 131 points to 96 for Pike Central and 95 for Vincennes Lincoln.

Washington placed fifth with 66.5 points. Barr-Reeve was eighth (34) and North Daviess ninth (14).

Perkins said he was also proud of his other participants as well.

ÒStephen Lang, in the 800, and Chayse Wagler in the 400 also ran to personal bests,Ó said Perkins.  ÒThomas Quast did not make the final in the 100 or 200, but had good performances in both for his first year of running track.Ó

    Wagler placed second in the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:33.15, and was fourth in the 3,200 meters in 10:21.
