The United Way of Daviess County began its annual campaign with a successful Day of Caring service day Tuesday. After the 22 United Way agencies submitted their work needs, the United Way distributed the work to the volunteers, local company employees, townspeople and students. Some of their work was captured in photos. Here is Day of Caring 2009:

WHS wins 6th title - A Slideshow
More than 3,000 members of Hatchet Nation were on hand for Saturday’s sold-out Class 3A state championship game at Conseco Fieldhouse and they will tell you, “Hatchetball” is the kind of basketball that wins state championships.
Six state championships, to be exact, after Washington’s thrilling 65-62 overtime victory over the Gary Wallace Hornets.

Washington High School's Hatchets advance to Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for the Class 3A Southport State Championship on Saturday where they will face Gary Wallce. The Hatchets dominated No. 1 Danville to claim the Class 3A Southport Semistate crown by a score of 57-38.

Barr-Reeve defeated Lanesville 69-50 on Saturday night to collect the Class A Loogootee Regional Crown and advance to the Seymour Semistate on March 20 against North Central.

Hatchets take Regional: A Slideshow
Washington High School's Hatchets advance to the Class 3A Southport semistate on Saturday where they will face No. 1 Danville. The Hatchets defeated Boonville 55-47 to claim the Class 3A Washington Regional crown.

WHS claims sectional: A Slideshow
For the Washington Hatchets, the path to another sectional championship on Saturday was as simple as a mathematical equation - No. 20 X three = six.
No, not 60 as the laws of multiplication dictate, but six, as in the number of consecutive sectional titles the Hatchets have now claimed after a 43-30 win over Jasper in the championship game of Sectional 31 at the Hatchet House.

Washington Times-Herald photographer Kelly Overton videos a training exercise for Washington Police and other police agencies around the area. Officers are required to train for two hours on the Emergency Vehicle Operating Course at least once a year. This training took place at Washington's Gwaltney Sports Complex.
