WASHINGTON — Marion R. Barber, 89, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at his residence. Born Jan. 23, 1921, in Daviess County, he was the son of Logan W. and Lorena Pearl (Arison) Barber. A member of Bethel United Methodist Church, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at B and O Railroad, Ohio Oil Company, owned a Marathon station for 12 years, was the Daviess County Recorder from 1961 to 1968, and retired from Washington National Bank. He served for many years on the Daviess County Council. He was a member of the American Legion, Sheriff Merit Board, Daviess County Hospital Board, Southern Indiana Development Commission, charter member of Kiwanis with perfect attendance for 37 years, Masons, Eastern Star, Mental Health Association, Ministerial Association, Planning and Zoning Board, YMCA Board, Saddle Club, Republican Committee, R.S.V.P. Volunteer, Generations, Indiana Rock Camping Club, 4-H, Feed My Sheep and Extension Advisory Board. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Maish) Barber, whom he married Sept. 23, 1944; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Don Lowe of Washington; grandchildren, Jane Wood and friend John Ruppel of Washington and Jason and wife Bobbie Chapman of Washington; great-grandchildren, Andrea (J.D.) Ellis, Gabrielle Dlugosz, Bethany Dlugosz, Joshua Dlugosz, Joseph Wood, Justin Hill, Jordan Chapman, Whitney Hill, Morgan Campbell and Matthew Ruppel; great-great-grandchildren, Carson Wood and Ashtin Catt; and a sister, Beverly Fields of Lampe, Mo. He is preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Jeffers, and a brother, Harold Barber. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel United Methodist Church North, with Rev. Marvin Cheek officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral Home, and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
