Austin 'Leland' Edwards

ALFORDSVILLE — Austin “Leland” Edwards, 79, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Sunday at Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 9, 1930, in Daviess County, he was the son of William and Esther (Parker) Edwards.

A 1949 graduate of Alfordsville High School, he was a lifetime farmer, had worked for Graber Implement and later for JOFCO where he retired. He was an avid coon hunter and gardener and a member of Waco Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of more than 59 years, Betty (Nalker) Edwards, whom he married Dec. 18, 1949; two daughters and a son-in-law, Helen and Tony Massie of Washington and Rebecca Jane Fawk of Alfordsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Mary Beth Edwards of Portersville and Charles and Sally Edwards of Alfordsville; one sister, Lenora Stultz of Bedford; one brother, Russell Edwards of Trinity Springs; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Friedman Edwards and Robert Edwards; and one great-granddaughter, Aylah Dale Fawks.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with Bro. Monty Critchlow officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Reeve Township.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
