WASHINGTON — Michael R. “Mike” Kimmel, 56, of Washington, died at 9:58 p.m. Friday at Daviess Community Hospital. Born Jan. 30, 1956, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Alfred R. and Georgia R. (Abbott) Kimmel. A 1974 graduate of Washington High School, he was a service person at Washington Municipal Utilities. He was an outdoors man who enjoyed fishing and gardening and was an avid Indiana University basketball and Colts fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter, Shanda (Jeff) Smith of Washington; a son, Josh Kimmel of Washington; grandchildren, Kaeden Michael Smith, Brooklyn Lea Smith, Braden Stanley, Colton Stanley and Alex Baxter; fiancee, Sabine Cassidy of Washington; sisters, Judy (John) Litten of Newport Richey, Fla., and Sue of Santa Anna, Calif.; and a brother, Dallas (Ellen) Kimmel of Spencer. He is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Brey Scott Smith. There will be no service of visitation. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.gillsince1872.com.
