LOOGOOTEE — Martha “Bessie” Day, 90, died at 5:50 a.m. Monday at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon.
Born July 8, 1918, in Martin County, she was the daughter of Eli and Mary “Effie” (Waggoner) Harris.
A member of Loogootee Christian Church, she had previously worked at the Loogootee Five and Dime.
She is survived by three sons, James E. Day of Bramble, Charles “Chuck” Day of Loogootee, and Billy Joe Day of Shoals; one daughter, Carolyn Colglazier of Loogootee; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Earl Day, is deceased. Three brothers, Alton, Bill and Loren Harris, are also deceased.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brocksmith Funeral Home in Loogootee. Burial will be in Goodwill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
