FT. MYERS BEACH, Fla. — Chester R. Frye, 80, formerly of Mulberry and Lafayette, died June 7 at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Ft. Myers. Born June 5, 1930, in Cannelburg, to the late O. Taylor and Leona E. Frye, he attended Alfordsville High School and Purdue University. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. On Dec. 20, 1953, he married Barbara Ruth Branaman who preceded him in death in 2009. He is survived by his three children, Kim Lindstrom (husband Dale) of Lafayette, Julie Frye (husband Dale Horan) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and David Frye of Indianapolis. He is also survived by grandchildren Donna Veldhuizen and Shandra Lindstrom of Lafayette, Jacinda Huskey of Virginia and Sara and Hanna Frye of Indianapolis; great- grandchildren, Isaac Richardson and Shelby Veldhuizen; and sisters, Helen Hines, Mary Jane Fisher and Shirley Shoup. He is preceded in death by sisters Genevieve Williams, Burdette Baker, Beverly Frye, and brothers Udell, Ott, Dennis and Oral Frye. He worked for Eli Lilly and Company for 32 years. Mr. Frye was a Master Woodcarver and Member of the National Woodcarvers Assoc., life member of BPO Elks No. 560, 57-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 618, a member of the VFW, Moose Lodge No. 964 and American Legion Post No. 0274. He was an avid square dancer and enjoyed bluegrass music. Kiser Funeral Home, Ft. Myers, was entrusted with his remains for cremation. A Celebration of his life will be held at Rush Pavilion Columbian Park, 1915 Scott St., Lafayette, at 6 p.m. Saturday. The family may be reached at kslind1856@gmail.com (June 7, 2010)
