COLUMBUS — Jane H. Schaefer, 78, died at 12:13 a.m. Wednesday at her home, surrounded by her family. Born July 4, 1934, in Washington, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Frederick J. and Catherine A. (Ayers) Homann. She graduated in 1952 from Washington Catholic High School and in 1954 from Northwestern University’s School of Dental Hygiene. She assisted with the research program involved with the introduction and development of Crest toothpaste at Indiana University’s School of Dentistry. She married Richard L. Schaefer Aug. 3, 1957. In 1965, the Schaefers moved to Columbus and Jane continued working in the dental hygiene field. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and was active in the local Democratic Party. Jane was a beautiful, dynamic, intelligent and loving person who will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years; her dear children, Richard H. Schaefer of Denton, Texas, Laura S. Fox of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Catherine S. “Katie” (Bill) Edmunds of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Linda Homann of Washington; loving grandchildren, Christopher S. Fox and Chandler J. Fox, both of Scottsdale, and Jane S. and William R. “Will” Edmunds, both of St. Louis. A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m Saturday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, with Rev. Clem Davis officiating. Inurnment is planned at a later date.
